I'm dropping hints to my wife for a video unit for Christmas☺. It'll have to wait until the snow melts before I can take it up for any good rides though. I just can't bring myself to put on the ski gear to ride anymore, guess I'm getting soft in my old age.

I've never done any riding in St George. When I head south to ride, its Moab with the mountain bike. Somehow the portal or porcupine downhills just wouldn't be the same just using a camera . No threat of falling off the edge and dying.
I don't know if you saw Kipsters excellent "wife hint tip" but he changes the computer home screen to the desired object. In his case a new bike.

I used to ride a fixie when i lived in London. Perfect for city cycling, but not great on the hills! i lived SE London, so had to get over an area called Crystal Palace - some on here might know those hills. Not massive, but always a struggle on a single speed

If you want to beat me, have a go at the chain gang ride - I struggle so much on the flat sections.
Anerley Hill, South Norwood Hill, Central Hill and Gypsy Hill yep I know all of them. Used to be able to ride up and over all of them. Mainly Anerley and Gypsy Hills on the way to work. Broke a chain on Gypsy Hill one evening and ended up a few octaves higher for a couple of days. :cursing:

I managed to get in 2 bkool rides today but it took 5 attempts. The software froze 3 times right at the beginning of rides necessitating a reboot. Internet fine Etc. So, I went into task manager. It seems bkool was loading twice when I started the program. I thought I must have double clicked too often so rebooted and carefully started up bkool, straight into task manager and there it was, 2 bsims running. So uninstalled and reinstalled and now when I start up only one copy runs. Hurrah! I only mention this in case anyone is having similar problems. Fingers crossed.
Oh, yeah changed my weight to reflect autumnal weight gain. 5 kilos:blush: I think the goats league just got a little harder:thumbsdown:
Only five?... lightweight!!!

Yep, those are the hills. Until recently we lived in Beckenham and I used to cycle to and from West End most days of the week on the fixie. In the morning, from Penge up past Crystal palace park was always a struggle. Much preferred the evenings, coming up past Dulwich College :okay: Still not easy, but I knew I was on the way home LOL

So I have been playing around in a solo ride to check what is going on with the speed on downhills. I can confirm that the speed only goes as far as the actual wheel/trainer speed, i.e., there is absolutely not compensation for gravity/freewheeling effect. I understand that you guys riding bkool pro get a "generously compensated" speed in these conditions that is shown in a different color, not the case with my vortex smart trainer. Thus, on downhills I can only go slightly faster than on flats, everything over 40kmh is just exhausting and nearly sprinting. It is a boomer because not only I cannot rest on downhills, but because I am passed by everybody at 60-70kmph. Is there any setting in the software to change this or is this just a bkool trainer feature? Maybe if I unpair the trainer's internal speed sensor? It is a pity because I enjoy Bkool software for the ocasional group rides but this behaviour is very frustrating!
Baldo to be honest its's not much better on the Bkool. On the climbs I gain on bots etc, on flats and downhills I lose massive amounts of time unless I am turning a far bigger gear than I would normally be using, which as you say is exhausting, so I always lose time. Today I did a Bkool ride based on the road ride i did last Sunday/ Normally this would be at an average speed of between 27-29 kph but I couldn't get anywhere near that, largely because I can't get the flat/downhill speeds I would do if riding on the road without churning a far bigger gear than I am comfortable with. Something for Bkool to work on perhaps?

What is the criteria for 'moose'?

As for 'wife hints', I gave up on that years ago. Far safer to get your own pressies and wrap them up from the wife/kids. At least that way there's no disappointment.

No criteria at all. Just join and ride. Essentially we're just slower than the goats.

For the next run at the moose league (start of the new year), I'll make sure we can add ghosts and such to our rides, which makes them a lot more enjoyable.

A good question, and not one that has been formalised . @JLaw set up the group for us slower riders, but as most of us are on the wrong side of the weight scale, so maybe a BMI based guide might be a help? I think I worked out my BMI to be 28+ the other day, so maybe 25+ is a guide for a Moose? Certainly puts the rider in the overweight category

The goats appear to be lightweights who I just don't think enjoy the finer things in life like us Mooses (things like pies, burgers and real ale ) - I hear Goats eat mostly salad and plain chicken :giggle:

Well if there were a criteria to join I think I made it on Little Cottonwood Canyon tonight. It really was quite demoralising seeing the ghosts up front disappearing. Tough ride though and very worthy of the league. Might have to give it another go if I have some spare energy later in the week.

The only place for salad is in the middle of a 6oz burger with cheese onion rings and pulled pork.
