Rick it would have been good to try to work together but you were so much faster than me on the downhill and I was faster uphill. I'm guessing your BKOOL weight is a couple of KG more than mine and it screws with the speeds so much! I think it is not really possible to draft when you are going flat out unless you are with someone of the same weight and you knock the speed off a bit at first.
Yeah, we were yo-yoing back and forwards for the first bit but I just couldn't keep with the pace on the extended uphill parts. I'm 84kg so i think there's more than a couple of kg between us!

Have you seen the new lead time Rick!!!:notworthy:

Looks like it's getting tougher than ever to get ahead in the chaingang (goats too). Todays lacklustre ride from me was due to not feeling able to beat my Thursdays time but wanting to keep some energy for one final attempt before the stage closes. Looks like the most suitable ghosts for me to challenge are Bobs and Lars, as Rick, you'll be too fast downhill and AAAC will to too fast on the uphill.

I'm assuming Rick will start it at 5pm. If there's no sign of him by about 5.02 then I will start the re-run session with a 10 min warmup as usual.

Messed up again today. Warmed up till 16:58 then logged back into the Live page litterally on the dot at 17:00.
First session showing was the Chaingang ride. Clicked on start and no sooner that the session opened it was starting and I was still rotating and its telling me to stop pedaling to start the session and everyone was going up the road. Panic!
Slammed on the anchors and waited for the speed show zero and set off, still in a panic!
I'm passing ghosts and not many live contenders but I keep going. Took me quite a while to catch the likes of Bill S, LBHIFI and Boblinski and they were ghosts too and then I knew I was in the wrong ride but I'mn already blowing hard so I thought b*gger it, just keep going.
I played yoyo with the front runners with them sling shooting past me after descents and then I worked hard to catch up on the climbs.
Once I was finaly getting the measure of things and able to open up a small gap on one of the longer climbs, a buffer I wanted to hold to make up for the slingshots after descents as I clearly could not rely on drafting as I would just loose ground at the bottom of every descent that went straight into a climb.
At this point I realised John18 was still out there so I gave chase but I only seemed to be catching on descents and not the climbs and I'm thinking 'who is this guy with a red hat' but then about half way through he seems to tail off and I catch him and distance him quite quickly but Boblinski and LBHIFI were coming back so it was pedal to the metal all the way home.
Funny thing is that my average HR was only one up from my last atempt (154 to 155) and my average watts was only up 3.5 but my time was a whole 1:45 better!

I feel a bit of a cheet though beecause I have posted this time out of live competition so I would be happy to be relegated to my previous time.
I must admit though that having the 'hounds' in front and then behind me was a real incentive, especially 3/4 way through when the gap was closing, but as they were only ghost they could not react to my challenge so appologies again for doing this blind.
I promise that on Thursday I will join the right session and not one that starts anyting other than one or later than 10 past the hour.

It certainly didn't look lacklustre Bill. I thought you were holding back a bit but then once the road began to rise you seemed to make up time pretty fast.
I am hoping to have another go tomorrow and may well challenge Lars. It's not tas much fun as racing with everyone though.

It's a cracking time AAC. Impressive mix of power and stamina. Pretty low heart rate too. I normally ride to 160 at most and ease off the power past then but on this ride because it was shorter rode harder than beforehand and thats reflected in an average hr of 165. I am not sure I feel really comfortable with that. I certainly won't be riding as hard on the next chain gang given the length of the course.

That session was started be me alright but I cancelled it almost immediately as it didn't have a warm up for some reason. Sorry about that. :shy:

Seems to be happening regularly when I try to add ghosts to league sessions. It might just be one persons profile causing the issue, so must play around with it to see of I can narrow down what's going on.

Hi Griffo. What happened that your time wasn't registered? Did you complete the course ok or did it just not register as a league ride?

Hi Rick. I completed the time trail and accepted when I finished but it's not showing on my profile...
Ah right. This has been happening some of us on the odd occasion. I had a ride that just seemed to vanish - didn't show on my home page or any other listing. Just randomly showed up a day layer! Hold tight and I'd say it'll come through in its own time.

I don't like to spend too much time at above 160,
I think I can still hit 170 but because I have had a Heart disease I tend to be cautious, however if I wander beyond 162 it can be no going back time (and I mean recovery and not rigamortis) unless I am descending an Alp and can get a decent rest (or is that a descent rest?).
Instead of easing of, if my HR is approaching 160 too early, I try and drop the cadence first as this helps stops the BPM climbing too quickly.
However you are right about the short ride thing as this was a distance that allows for no letting up so much so that I was finding hard to find a good spot to take a mouth watering swig.
Plus although you were not racing me, because you were a ghost to me, I was on the rivet all of the time as every time I tried to ease off the gap started tumbling and I had no idea how fast your finish was and, like nearly every time I am try ing to best and already set time, I manage to forget the target I was chasing (kind of was that 23:25 or 25:23 or the like). Other times I ttied to remember the average speed I'm chasing but then I realised that unless your way ahead of the target and there are no ups and downs left it pretty meaningless until it's too late.
Anyway hopefuly we will meet live on Thursday, if I can get it right.
