That was tough, but it was obvious to me that having done the DD a couple of days ago just made us go faster. Geoff had the handicaps worked out well so without the DD we would have all come in around the same.
So it's true what they say: What doesn't kill you makes you faster!

Bill, you seem to have sorted whatever it was that impacted on your power on the handicap rides. Very frustrating! ^_^ I actually thought I might catch you as the gradient levelled off  oh well!

I was there at 7 with Berty.
We kept below 9 kph until the start banner and that 240 meters took for ever.
I thought I wasn't going to shake you off at the start there Berty but obviously your early effort started you stomach off.
i'm afraid I left my weight at 76 kg Geoff (is that going to mess up your calculations) as I saw no point shifting it for a single kilo so instead i took my top off to even things up.
Well done AAAC - great effort once again

Power was still low at 76% but with my new lower weight it was enough to speed me up the hill at a good pace. I wasn't going to let you catch me though and the only figure I paid any attention to the whole race was the time gap between you and me. I kid you not! ^_^

Oh yeah so it is - that's an odd choice?! Sunday of a bank holiday works out so well for travelling etc - a Friday will make it a lot harder for lots of people logistically
That is the Friday of the Bank holiday weekend - surely they mean Sunday 30th? I will look out for updates....

Well @bridgy and @Bill really pleased to see that this weekend dented your performance!

@Goldwolfie was desperately trying to stay with you at the end but just hadn't got the legs or lungs for the job.

Well done all

Not sure what else we can do to slow these boys down - Geoff is trying his best to even things up and they still wipe the floor with us - well done though very impressive times. I just hope you were as shattered as I was at the finish as that would make me feel a bit better.

@Soarerv8 - enjoyed that 'battle', I'd eaten 90 minutes before the start and that probably made the difference.

Bill perhaps you need some tips from Nibali for getting your mojo back.

Tandems, they have to carry one of us with them that might just slow them down, nothing else seems to work!

Edit: on reflection stuff that, a tandem would infer we would be expected to pedal, better still one of those little trailers people carry their kids / dog in.

There's a saying "There's no replacement for displacement". The same goes for power in bkool. If you've got it, no matter what weight you register, you can use the higher power you generate to overcome a lot of handicaps. By the looks of it you can also sustain a higher cadence at a given resistance. You are by definition a lot fitter and can maintain a higher effort for longer.

Just a little sad that I can't match some of you guys and gals .

Power does come out lower than normal when you reduce the weight like this - well it does for me anyway - so I would take that 76% with a pinch of salt. My efffort also showed as 77%. I guess this makes sense - it would take more power to do the efforts we did at our higher weights than at the reduced weight?
