Blinking gear cable snapped . Not great timing but could have been much worse, including me being almost at the top.
Hard luck Bill! I don't envy you having to do that again :heat:

I had a good battle with AAAC - well unless he was just toying with me that is?! Because he left me for dead in the last half a mile or so and there was nothing at all I could do!!

There's some tough courses in this league - thanks @RickB!!

Looks like a blotchy evening? I can't see anyone's results

Well done to @Goldwolfie holding off my ghost :okay: Well done @Rob, great ride

Thanks for the encouragement @Whorty - if it was a 800 yards further I wouldn't have held off your ghost plus I'd have to have reached for a snorkel with the rate the sweat was rising.

I've got to say that was the worst I've felt at the end of any cycle ride - that final climb and the heat pushed my heart rate well above what it normally is when I'm flat out.

Hats off to all who have attempted that one.

Would you believe that what with mine going Tuesday.
I forgotten how crisp my gear change was as it must have degraded slowly.
I was trying to leave a bridge for you Bill but you died, so I assumed something mechanical had happened.

Bridgy
My catch was too easy (no offence) I powered into the start of that big climb today having saved my self a bit on the flater bits (lesson learnt from last stage) and I just blue numbered all the way up to you and so I backed off to 200 watts until you caught me and then sat with you testing you every now and again or trying to get you to think I had burned out and then come back again so ended up with a big effort in reserve today.

Sorry not to give you more competition - but that was all I had!!

Well, bkool says it was 94% effort but I beg to differ!

It is interesting watching your self race! My wife got involved, cheering on my ghost

Brilliant - I hope she wasn't shouting abuse at me at the end ^_^

That was hard. After the false start I forgot there would only be a 5 min warm up and so when you all went off I was spinning and do a work email at the same time! I swore a lot. By the time I got going I was so fed up I came out and did the trainer update and then went back in. For the first minute or so resistance seemed strange, really difficult to turn the pedals and then it settled down. After that it was just a bloody chore if I am honest! Hot, stuffy and pretty relentless. I won't be doing it again. Well done all who did the ride and bad luck there bill. I see bridgy and AAAC did a contador and took advantage^_^

I was caught out by the start as well and stuck on the line as my wheel was still spinning - it didn't keep me stuck there for ages like it usually does though - just a few seconds (phew!)

.

Well that was a tough job changing the cable. Just the inner one but I couldn't believe how complicated things have got compared to last time I changed a gear cable on a race bike. And YouTube was useless as a guide. Got it done though and will do the fine tuning adjustments tomorrow. It's a lot easier on a mountain bike too.
