Commando?![]()
I've been pondering a professional bike fit for a long time but it doesn't seem right as I only ride indoors however riding on a turbo for a hour and a half is probably worse the a few more hours on the road due to the lack of change of position, stopping, standing up and so on.
Getting all of the angles and height right should be well worth the effort plus the chance to try a load of tester saddles.
My work colleague, like me, has been riding competitively since the early mid seventies and he is still competing at 57 all be it in triathlons now.
He had a bike fit a couple of years ago and he couldn't believe how much they changed, as like me he thought he had read the book etc......
Good luck with your saddle choosing,
If I could buy just one more saddle that was the right one I would pay up to £150 for it as over the past few years I have probably spent double that on saddles, all be it I have got some of it back by selling the rejects.
As it turns out my most expensive purchase has been the best one so far however by ebay Adamo Prologue, which has been my second best so far, had an RRP of over £100 when I got it for £50.

Yes it is "interesting".
Hint: Saturday (today) 5pm.
But on the plus side I have just been to Evans and bought a new saddle (specialized Toupe). I can take it back anytime in 30 days to swap if it's not comfortable enough.

Brought my old saddle (a fizik) with me to Evans and the guy behind the counter said it was a really good saddle nad he had one the same and really liked it. I said I didn't and I was there to find it's replacement. We then went and measured my sit bones and mine are average so the saddle size I have is correct for me. Not actually what I wanted to hear as I was hoping for a fix by getting a different sized saddle. So on discussing the saddles and sizes he mentioned where on the saddle I sit and I said I think I am forward on the saddle and he said this would be the reason it's causing pain. The body will automatically position where it needs to be to make the most power and the saddle has to be moved so that this will align with the correct contact between bum and saddle. Mine was obviously way out. Tried to buy new shorts there too but they were out of stock of the ones they recommended for me (Altura Pro Gel) but they said I should order a couple of sizes online to be delivered to their shop then I can try them both on and return the one that doesn't fit. Anyway back at home with the turbo I have fitted the Toupe and it was uncomfortable as I had it in the same position as the old saddle. I moved it way forward and it became comfortable. I then took off the Toupe and put on the Fizik but in the same forward position. This was more comfortable than the ToupeI was surprised at the price but then I realised that it does not have 'gel' in its name.
I'm planning to do the re-run today. Not planning to beat my first attempt, I might just pootle this time as a training run. But then, once on the bike that may all change![]()
