I slogged my way up last night. Couldn't keep up with your or my ghost from last year. Wrapped up at 2:50ish. But I didn't feel as horrible when I finished this time.

When I did it last I had the fw superpowers so yeah, could be much worse this time!

Oh, sure i saw some users were running 32's with it.

Bob it's amazing to be honest. I've not had it long enough to really give a qualified review but it makes me smile lots which is how I normally rate things. The only negative I'd say is I have carbon break tracks on my wheels which aren't as grippy as alloy ones and the etap break calipers don't feel as sharp as my old dura ace ones did so don't give you the same confidence. But that might just be me. The cost is crazy really when you look at what you get for your money but these things are always relative I guess.

With regards the 32t cassette did you see that online? I think it's been mentioned on the 'weight weenies' forum but I can't remember the conclusion. Maybe a specially modified hanger.

I can't remember what the problem is to be honest. I'm guessing partly because it's only supplied with a medium cage at present but I'd have to do a bit of reading.

I think I'm just slower than last year right now. Not entirely sure why -- things were going quite well up through July. But I didn't make any progress on my goals in Aug/Sep and likely went backwards, but didn't have enough real world rides to know for sure. Still pondering the specifics for what I want to accomplish in the upcoming year and how best to get there.

Regardless, the goat rides are fun in a sadistic way. Though at their current length they're harder to squeeze in after the munchkins are in bed.

I don't want to do 100 plus miles. More than happy to do 60-80 miles. Not bothered about climbing with my available setup, so happy to go up the steepest climbs.

Seems like there's 3 distances andy. 121, 95, and 60 miles. The 95 still has approx 10,000 feet of climbing! The 60 doesn't have more information yet.

Kipster you generally don't have to change shifter only rear derailleur. What setup do you have? Rear derailleur are cheap enough, and with a cass being cheap aswell 11-32 or 11-34 11-36 are possible. other option is a mtb crankset 38/26 36/22 depending on bottom bracket. I did fit a 36/22 Shimano slx crank and a 11-36 cass to my wifes shopper bike which had a road size bottom bracket. It works a treat and allows her to climb silly hills and she is not a dedicated rider.

My personal setup involves a custom hanger and 11-40XT cass, married to Shimano 50/34 crank on my CXR

Hills then become no problem at all, you just spin up at a comfortable pace

Running campagnolo Veloce which is 10 speed, max range of derailleur is 29t, they have just released Potenza groupset which can go to 32 (maybe 34), but that is 11 speed. I'll have to improve my climbing technique instead.

I've signed up fo rthe 3 day event. Day 1 90K Day 2 93K and then went for the shorter! 230K on final day.
