I forgot to have some food ready - HID threw me a bag of Harribo with an hour to go.
Only once ever had food during a ride, and that was when I did bonnette. An over ripe banana. My keep one next to me again today. Felt weird eating and cycling but needs must!

I have a banana 30 min before any ride over 40 min, esp if I have done a warm up of 20 or more minutes, and then have a gel or jelly babies at 1 every 10-15 minutes thereafter. That's on basis energy reserves will begin to deplete at about 7-800 calories lost and need to keep energy up. Also, have been known to have a swig or two of chocolate milk I keep for post ride recovery in pref to a gel.

Right I'm set. 14:50 is my warm-up start time. 15:00 is the stage start time. With the warm down run back down Ventoux I hope to be finished by 18:00. We shall see.

Edit to add.

After yesterday my target is to stay above 200 bkool watts. Unlikely but I'll try.

Maybe this is my problem - a long ride for me can burn (according to BKool) 1500 calories and I don't replenish during the ride. I then start to fade towards the end. Will have my banana next to me today and like the Bonnette ride I'll take a mouthful every 15 mins so hopefully keep me energised to the end. Not used to eating and cycling, so have to try not to vom xx(

I'll jump on your ride when I'm ready - you'll be way up the hill be then, but it'll hopefully give yo a bit of a moral boost to see another Moose struggling and in pain! You planning to challenge @Perky77 and his ghost? Could be a good pacer.

I find I don't normally need to eat on bkool rides as they're not long enough, but for those of you who will take 2+ hours to do Ventoux it's probably a good idea to have some supplies to hand!

There's a fine line between being under-fueled and eating so many extra calories you undo all the good work the exercise is doing - particularly if you want to lose some weight. I don't believe the bkool or strava calories figures!

I do often have a gel with me just in case on longer bkool rides but rarely eat it. I pinched some jelly babies off the kids the other day to eat during a race and found it impossible to eat them as I was breathing so heavily, so the gel is definitely the easiest thing to get down!

You're welcome to join me :hello:.

I tend not to use ghosts as I am trying to learn how my body reacts to the ups and downs on these sessions. Drafting will pull me out of the zone I am trying to be in. Also, for some reason, I end up racing rather than following. I even did to a ghost of myself the other day and blew up half a mile from the finish
