HR is a fun old thing, the average will depend on how easy you're taking it. On Bkool I regularly average 170bpm, the highest I've had it is 192 but try to make sure I don't get that high, normally ok with up to 185. Mine tends to run high anyway, but it can be affected by caffeine, colds etc..

Thanks Kip thats given me a bit of perspective. I didn't feel in any distress at 160+ so mines likely going to go a bit higher too when I'm racing you guys.

One thing I noticed straight away is that it makes the warm up and down more structured. It meant I could focus on trying to raise / decrease my HR slowly rather than just cranking up without any real idea what I was doing.

Speaking of cycling adventures, did you get the green light for Wales mate?

I was looking to add a Heart Rate monitor to my setup maybe after Christmas. What are you using? The chest strap kind doesn't appeal to me that much but wasn't sure about accuracy of anything else.

Hi jeepfreak

The one I'm using is a Scosche rhythm+. Recomended by theboxers who also speaks highly of it. I've only used it once but I'm very happy with it so far. It goes on the arm rather than chest and the strap is both comfy and easy to tighten\release. I always struggled with the garmin to get it to pick up my heart beat but I don't know if others had the same problem. This is compounded on bkool as you don't have the option of it picking up signal after you've started a ride. I believe if its hasn't registered the HRM before you log on it won't work. This one kicked in no problems. No probs trying to make sure its slightly moist etc. Cost is a negative. Can't remember exactly but it was over £50 which seems a bit excessive.

I've just done a ride using the hrm for the first time. TB it worked perfectly and I far prefer it to the chest strap. Thanks again amigo. :okay:

My average bpm was 155 I think. Is that high? I know it's not a straight forward answer.

Also I have a garmin hrm I don't need. I couldn't get it working on bkool but have used it in the real world. Don't know if the battery went or I'm just a plank . Either way does anyone want it? I'm happy to give it to someone who uses that type of strap. At worst you can change the battery right?
You're not gonna like this reply :giggle:. 155 is not necessarily high.

I suggest you take the 220bpm - your age = as a starting point. Mine should be about 168 from that but I've never managed more than 155. The highest average for more than 30 minutes I've had was iirc 145. That hurt, a lot.

You need to determine your max hr. I would suggest a treadmill test at a local gym to give you a guide. I had to do one at a hospital when I was very, very unfit and a smoker, damn near collapsed just walking quickly. Not a good feeling. Or you could try the ftp test and then spend another 10 minutes on the velodrome in zone 5 or 6 to try to max out your heart rate :boxing::B):boxing::B).

Once you have your max you can work out your hr zones and use them as a guide with the workouts.

Then the pain really begins

@TurboTommy and I are using the Scosche Rhythm + (I've had mine for about 18 months now). It tracks the same as many out there from my experience (I have a garmin, garmin run both part of bundles that I managed to get discount on and also a Wahoo tickr and tickrX). My Fenix 3 HR also gives the same numbers within a beat or 2.

Yes the Scosche is relatively expensive but take advantage of my journey through the various hrm's out there. I ended up with the Scosche due to its ability to do both Ant+ and BLE (iphones are not native Ant+ devices, only BLE). Also it is not a chest strap, that a lot of people can't get on with.

YMMV

I haven't been so disappointed by so called advance in cycle clothing and accessories since the introduction of padded synthetic cycle short inserts.
What was wrong with a dried up bit of chamois, these guys are trying to take the joyful basics out of a noble sport.

My Lg V10 I push the screen around to see the live events. Its a little buggy and sometimes crashes, mainly ok though

I don't have the swipe functionality. I'm using an android box plugged into my TV via hdmi. It would seem I am screwed! My genius idea of buying a cheap box off ebay to run it was perfect until the update. Bring back the buttons

I bought the same HRM as TB suggested and used it a couple of times now. I average around 160-165 with a max of 172 ... so I'm probably not trying hard enough
