Hmmm all of this talk of superfast tyres gives me a dilemma.

A number of years ago I used to play golf, I was crap. I had inexpensive sticks and a learned friend convinced me that expensive sticks would make a massive difference. So I went to Ping and got a full set of expensive purpose built for me clubs. Turns out I was still crap but had nothing to blame so I stopped doing it.

I also once purchased a sailing boat. Thing was I was a lot slower than other boaters at the club I joined so I bought a much better more expensive sailing boat. Turns out I was just not as good so I was slower and it wasn't the boat so I stopped doing it.

Now I am hearing that the reason I am always at the back of the field may not be because I am a useless tub of lard but actually it may be because my tyre isn't good enough. If I buy a new tyre and I am quicker then wahey, however if I buy a new tyre and am still ambling around as tail end Charlie I have nothing left to blame but me and history dictates what happens when I come to that conclusion.

Do you want me to take up hang gliding because this is what you are driving me towards.

I think you know the answer Soarer. It's something I've had to begrudgingly accept myself... There's no short cuts here unfortunately. You can train 'smarter', and buy better gear. But there's no escaping the fact you're only going to get out what you put in. It's a bit boring but there's no substitute for suffering. Fortunately we're all in the same boat!

Are you talking about kids, Christmas, cycling or kitchens?

I found that initially I benefited from losing visceral fat by high intensity rides which pretty much meant high heart rates. The net effect was great as my heart and lungs started to work more efficiently. I then started to push up my cadence and focus on that when riding, even if it meant going slower. This helps build efficiency. I used to be old school with a 70rpm cadence and grind it out but higher cadence is so much better. Saying that high torque and low cadence can help build muscle. Just think about what areas you want/need to improve. Over 9 months (admittedly the first 4 were hit and miss) but I have pushed power up from 260 Watts average to around 420, I did a 100 mile ride about a month ago, all starting from almost 19 stone and unfit.
Post ride nutrition can help. 75grams carbs and 25grams protein post ride within 20 mins. Also known as a banana and spoon of peanut butter!

Respect.
Where did you get your advice from or did you just research this all yourself.?

This was my own research basically on the interweb which has worked well (for me anyway). My problem is the next bit for my own performance and trying to identify how I can keep getting better without a plateau!

To avoid further embarrassment just give your loose cash to me and I'll spend it on my Mini.
It will still be a crap car in the view of many but I won't mind and I'll keep spending money on it but preferably yours.
Give you a mini as well if you like, got one of those kicking about

But you are trying to compare yourself against those who have done those activities for years.
I'm looking at doing some training to get better, it's just understanding what the weakest part of your riding is.... Don't get annoyed... get better.
Oh no I have done this for years too.......

Ferrying the kids around in a rickshaw could kill two birds with one stone.
Took this picture from my local neighborhood this summer

What sort of mini.
I did mean a car not a skirt!
I've heard about your role play sessions with the butler.

The power you can develop is at high end compared to most on bkool. I don't know your age and aspirations? Wanting to race/compete at good amateur or pro level or just good all round enthusiastic rider? I think if you just kept losing excess weight whilst maintaining current power figures your speed would go through the roof

The problem is that 20 years ago I was a lot more powerful and a lot lighter! Losing weight is a slow process so whilst losing weight I want to keep training the weakest link(s). Being 40 years young the best years are theoretically behind me!

If I can get to 80kg and pump out 480 watts average on a bkool tt I'll be happy, with the plan to ride an outdoor tt this summer.

480 watts Avg:blink:

I'm hoping to get to 300 Avg watts by Christmas day, riding against you in the goats league I might very well hit that target.

DP, I think you should do the summer cup, with those figures and continued weight loss, you will be right at the sharp end.
