Sorry chaps but I mentioned I'd be off for a while and doctor has confirmed that I've got an onset of achilles tendon rupture... basically it's tearing away from the bone.
On the plus side it's got nothing to do with gout which thanks to the anti inflammatory pills means i can drink what i like!

If things don't go pop all being well I should be back in a month or so.
I think I may be fighting @bobinski for the best dodgy legs excuses on cyclechat!

I cannot smile at that DP. Oh no. Speedy and full recovery mate:okay:

Sorry to hear you will be off for a while Daddy P - and not just because a few of us may have been banking on you being able to complete the NC qualifying and push us down!

On the plus side a month off may not be too bad to stomach. Hope to see you back soon.

After a decent length run I often take one of the High 5 recovery drinks, a mixture of protein and carbs. The Summer Berry is really nice when mixed with semi-skimmed milk.

For those of you hitting the turbo most days and looking to build muscle rather than lose weight these might be a help?

Banana/Vanilla for me! I actually look forward to it at the end of the ride - a bit of a carrot at the end

Get well soon DP

I too suffer with gout. I've been taking allopurinol 300mg for 6 years since my first attack. Wonder drug it is, recommended :okay:

Make that 3 of us with gout. When first struck me about 5 years ago I thought I'd broken my toe I was in so much pain. Anyhow, mine seems to be triggered by dehydration due to too much sweating on the turbo, so as long as I stay well hydrated I'm usually OK. I have the odd flair up but nothing too bad these days. Means drinking beer is still allowed

Paul do you have(jumping ahead, if I'm picked- will be a little guide for others) the structure of the racing, do we have to complete all races. I'm only thinking, I will be a poor performer on a hilly course, so would likely just bimble or not attempt that particular race if it doesn't suit my attributes(energy saving)
NC Structure: 3 back to back races. All 5 team members must finish each stage. If you don't finish a stage you're out. If you finish a stage late, you'll be late joining the next stage so won't stand much of a chance (and the time backlog will probably impact the following stage start too!). The courses they're using yet to be confirmed, but I expect one to be flattish or rolling and one to include a biggish hill (as per the first two stages of the qualifying league which were the ones used in the event last year). TTT course is flattish/rolling. Scoring is based on points for each team member based on their finishing position at the end of each stage.

Bearing in mind the final stage is a TTT with the time taken for the 4th placed rider it will be important that everyone completes each stage within the time limits, as we'll need a full team for that!

If the hilly stage is similar to stage 2 of the qualifying league you should be fine Andy as you put in a very good time for that! In fact, don't beat yourself up over last night's time either - it was still very good! You suffered against me for speed up the hill last night I think because it was particularly steep and I suspect the extreme steepness meant your higher weight had a bigger impact on speed. All teams are likely to have a mix of riders with strengths and weaknesses - don't worry about it, it's just a matter of doing your best on each stage - and in my case, finding a way of not cramping up at the end!

Never been less disappointed to have my whatever it is somebody hands you when they drop you and ride you into the dust. :notworthy: @BILL S a lesson in perfect tactics.i am loathe to say anything that might detract from your masterly ride. I had to make too much effort to stay with you and @Brusgaard who also rode a great race, on the flat so I didn't have enough to break the elastic on the climb and when you caught me at the top I knew the game was up when I tried to stay with you and couldn't I enjoyed it perversely. Thx, I mean it!

TBH Keith, I think I know what was going on yesterday and it wasn't a lot to do with masterly rides. I was hoping that we'd be able to draft for the duration but I detected that you were struggling a bit on the flats so then I thought about what we'd said earlier about tyre pressures for the ride and you'd said you might go for a reduction whereas I had said I'd be at full pressure and let some out at the bottom of the hill if necessary. As it happens I was at 150 psi the whole way. Still not sure if you ran at normal pressure or not, but it looked to me like you didn't. Bottom line was that I was having an easy time of it on the flat, but then at the hill you were easily able to leave me and Brusgaard, but I wasn't too concerned as the end was a good long downhill where my high tyre pressure should catch me up with you. What we really should have done is discussed tack-ticks pre race and gone with the same pressures. That way we'd get more efficient drafting speed. Next time

I think it’s a thin line between trying to conserve energy on a stage, vs pushing harder and getting more time to recover between stages. I was lucky last year because in the first stage myself DP and aaac were in a spot where we weren’t going to catch anyone or be caught. So we had a chance to conserve a bit of energy for the next stage.

The Pro trainer can sometimes throw odd cadence values because it does not have a true cadence sensor. Bill was probably doing 75 to 80 at least. That was still a beast of a climb though :bicycle::surrender:

Exactly right TB. For some reason (and me not having a separate cadence meter) the bkool built in one often reads approximately half.
