In related news, the Danish team Virtu Cycling lost 12 bikes and lots of expensive HED-wheels yesterday at the Danish U23 Championships, when someone broke into the team car during the night. So if someone offers you a cheap blue Storck bike, you know where they got it from.

Feeling terrible for you Randy. If there's no other way of getting you back on a bike (and I wouldn't blame you if you just wanted to call it a day and jump on the plane home) there's a bike hire company in Leith, Edinburgh who rent out bikes with panniers for £80/week or £70/week for 2 weeks

Thanks Bill. I think I AM going to cut my losses and head home early. The last time I bought a bike mid tour after breaking a chain stay, it changed the whole feel. My wife is insisting I regroup and start in Edinburgh then ride the double devil next year. The last 12 days have been the best and although it may have been a hasty decision it feels right. Like Arnold says”I’ll be back”

Thanks everyone for the offers of help and $$. I might be on to a new scam here. I have plenty of extra cash because I save my overtime throughout the year for biking and this trip has been way cheaper than I thought it would be.
I bought a one way ticket home from here so the bike bag I left in Cardiff is up for grabs. It is at the holiday inn express at the Cardiff airport.
If anyone wants it let me know and I’ll give them the information.

Totally understandable but gutted this has happened to you and that I won't get to catch up with you again in Wales (the lengths some people will go to get out of riding the Double Devil eh!!)

Sorry to hear you’re heading home Randy but I understand.

I do hope you are willing and able to come back next year. It will give me an extra impetus to do the DD next year if you’ll be there

Well this is weird.

As suggested, challenged myself on a short course we did back in an old CG league. Rode the Tacx Neo.

Rode with 45W more average power and averaged 3W/k versus 2.5W/k.

Got left on the line at the start and came in last 30 seconds behind my own Bkool ghost, yet the ride felt far more realistic.

How does that work? And is this similar to others experiences.

Randy, I’m absolutely gutted, I was SOOOO looking forward to meeting you. I would have given you a car to at least come and see the DD, and meet us all. I wish we could have talked you into staying for a bit. But I know you have to do what you feel the most comfortable with. The weather has been so good for your visit, I hope you do return and bring it with you again .
I for one will commit 110% to the DD next year, maybe even the 130 mile one, .
