Can I ask what sort of gearing you guys are using. As I'm getting on a bit I'm on a 50x13 with I think 25/27 sprocket at back.
Also who reckons they ride their bike less in the real world by having a trainer. I would be getting a lot less riding in now if I didn't have my neo.
I used to try to get the best of both worlds by having a 52/38 on the front and a 11-32 cassette which worked but with lots of chain offs. I just switched back to a compact 50/34 since the upgrade because even with the 52 11 combination I wasn’t getting anymore watts than the gravity gave me.

Quite the opposite for me. I use the trainer to maintain fitness for the days when it’s dry. I’m in a soggy part of the world, so getting out doesn’t happen that often - love RW, Audax and touring 🚲👍

Even at 50/13 and spinning I can feel the resistance and lactic acid burning but the watts keep

I'm. Using the gears that come with my bike, not trying to be funny but not clued up much on the gears! I definitely have been out less this year because of the trainer but I reckon I've done more than I would have without having the trainer.

Wow that's impressive, how did your times compare - chalk and cheese?

I tried to pootle along tonight - also I was worried about having just scoffed a piza an hour earlier so I kept it to 120bpm for 20mins or so but the Bkool guesstimator was suggesting the ride would take over 2 and a half hours. Started to feel ok so went up to around 150bpm which is probably my sweet spot for a hour or so. Some chap called Miguel from Argentina started catching me up so I put the hammer down, I was doing 300w on a 9% incline and he just flew past me - perhaps fairy dust, magic beans or dark matter - holy cow!

Felt good tonight, thanks for the suggestion @shimceltic really enjoyed that (now it's done!). :okay:

Bring on Thursday, just got to navigate 2 days of works drinks beforehand. hmmmm.
The big problem was after the little bridge after about 8kms, it kicks up and on bkool I could keep it going in real life when you turn the corner and can see the top in the far distance, and miles above you it's demoralizing. I have a best on bkool of 49:46,though it was with dust, most times were 1:04:00 and in real life my best is 1:44:21 but then it is after 100 kms and the gland on and the telegraph and with the alpe still to come.

i ride a 52/36 with an 11-28 cassette, the 11-32 only gets put on for very hilly sportives or if I'm touring in the mountains. I sometimes don't go out when I should because of the trainer but then I feel guilty and remember that no amount of short trainer work is the same as 3/4 hours in the saddle. Different fatigue.

GW, are you back?
Yep - I have decided it's time to give Bkool another go.
Have done very little over the last 12 months, either indoors or outside, so I think it's going to be a painful struggle.
Still got my old Bkool Classic 2, and now that support have sorted a problem I had with very low power and speed (5mph /50 watts max on for gas), I'm good to go. They dialled in and loaded an earlier version of turbo firmware and told me not to upgrade to any new versions in the future, as the old Classic cannot take it.
Thought I would join your tour league as a starter, and thanks for approving my access.
Will look at joining in the Thursday/Saturday group in the near future, but need to get some miles in the legs first.
