It was time for me to change the soil in the greenhouse beds (for my toms), and I was working up a fair old sweat in the lovely warm sunshine.
As a veg. gardener I've also noticed those recent long dry spells often in April just when we need 'showers', but I've also been reading AG Street (a farmer, journalist and author) to my mother. Writing in the 1930s he complained of a dry summer, that had followed a dry spring, a dry winter, a dry autumn and another dry summer, with farmers by then being desperately short of any sort of fodder for the coming winter. I also sat my O Levels in that long hot summer of '76.
