ii was talking about this to mrs roadrash t,other day, i was sat on the couch ordering and paying for stuff on my mobile phone , if some had told me , when i was a kid, that in the future i would be able to do that, i would have laughed em out of the playground .
Brings back a conversation with a friend back in the '80s...he was insisting that pretty soon everyone would have a mobile phone. I insisted that they would only ever be a toy for bankers and other yuppy idiots. He said: 'You're wrong. Our grandchildren will listen to our stories of the old days, and say, 'What? You had to be attached to the wall? By a wire!?' And then they'll laugh in disbelief.' I scoffed.

In the early 1970s, when computers filled buildings and cost millions, I told a schoolmate that within our lifetimes, computers would be small enough to fit in a suitcase, be powerful enough to compose electronic music on, and only cost about £25k. He laughed at me!

As we now know, it actually happened 3 times quicker, they are a mere fraction of suitcase-size, and can be bought for far less than 10% of the price.

In the early 80s, I told my girlfriend that within 20 years, we would have affordable handheld devices that could be used to talk to people pretty much anywhere on earth, watch films on, take photographs, perform complex calculations with, listen to music on, etc. She thought I was mad!

I have a smartphone which can do all of those things. It weighs 100 g, is the size of a small bar of chocolate, and cost me only £75 on eBay!

I admit that I did not anticipate the internet/web or GPS.

My forecast for the next 25 years ...? You aint seen nothing yet!

Technology is as we know highly dangerous. Think in-car phone use! This addict had a lucky escape:

Tourist walks off Australia pier while checking Facebook

I like the rather dry(!) remark in the police report

There will be no need for a lost property report as the woman kept hold of her mobile phone throughout the entire ordeal.

also this comment below the story:

I was using Google Maps to navigate my way around in London once and walked straight into a lamppost. It's a shame Google didn't show me where the lampposts were so I could avoid them. I am much more careful now
