I bought cheap padded shorts from china winning it for under a tenner. They arrived after about a week and are great value for what I would use on a short evening ride or a quick blast when pressed for time. Total cost was about £15 with postage.

I have bought nearly all of my cycling gear from ebay, and have rarely been disappointed. I bought a Dahon Jetstream P8 for half its new price; it came in its box with all leaflets, and apart from one scratch it was like buying a brand new bike. I bought a demonstrator recumbent trike that had been ridden around a car park a few times for £200 off list. The small parts I've bought are too numerous to mention, and I have been impressed with the candour of most sellers and the way they do business. I have just bought a 2009 Claud Butler Cape Wrath for £250 on Buy It Now; an identical model with much more use went for £350 just a day later.

Has anybody purchased anything similar to this:

The fabrics used in cycling clothes are synthetic so there's no real reason to think these would be significantly worse than those purchased from a shop.

I'm quite tempted but would be interested to hear others feedback

Hey Eddie

I went on ebay looking for some cheap Cervelo gear and found it littered with dozens of Chinese copies (same as anything these days I guess).

However just last week, I was lucky enough to also find a British seller of a Cervelo Team winter wind/rainproof jacket. Fortunately it was my size and noone else bid - got it for £60 + £2 post - that's way less than half price even compared to Wiggle!!! THEN, the guy emailed me and said he had checked it before posting and found a tiny hole inside a back pocket which you couldn't even see when just looking at the jacket and said he would refund £10 + the £2 postage to my Paypal account - which he did!! £50 BARGAIN and it's the first thing I have ever bought off

Moral of the story - if you are patient you might find the real Mccoy. I wouldn't buy the fake stuff, it just doesn't look as well made or solid.

As an aside, my buying mission has led me to a new found love of retro cycling tops. There are literally hundreds of funky designs / old team jerseys for as little as a couple of ££. Have a look at CONVICTSOFTHEROAD for example - awesome!

Not my story but I was reading this thread in Know How

I've been reading that thread as well. I don't know where he stands with that. On the one hand. it wasn't as stated in the ad but on the other he did have the chance to check it. If there had been that amount of damage to rotors so wheels wouldn't go round I may have been tempted to walk away and suffer the neg. feedback. The cracked frame was hidden though by the paint. That might be where to get money back as it would be downright lethal to ride with cracked frame.

The laptop I bought, the guy in his ad stated that anything other than possitive feedback would lead to him not giving warrenty. If I'd read that I wouldn't have had to buy a battery from another supplier. He also has never given me feedback even after contacting him and ebay with the item number and dates of the transaction.

I've had a fair amount of success with bike stuff on the bay.

I first bought this cannondale for £310

Unfortunately I ripped a brake stop off while giving it an overhaul

So i got this from ebay for £155:

And with some other parts. Including some ultegra shifters and brake calipers at £100 ish for the lot (off ebay of course)

I made this up:

some consumables and cables came from shops but I was having real trouble finding a triple front mech in 34mm size at reasonable prices and again ebay came to the rescue.

And also today these arrived:

They are as good as brand new complete with cleats for a total of £18 inc postage. Ideal for a first attempt at clipless.

There are definitely bargains to be had. You just have to look for a while, stick loads of things on your watch list and get a bit of luck!

Branded (Duracell) batteries for my cycle lights. Only cause ebay was cheapest.

Otherwise stay clear of ebay - especially used stuff.
