Has anybody purchased anything similar to this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.u...#ht_3266wt_1082

The fabrics used in cycling clothes are synthetic so there's no real reason to think these would be significantly worse than those purchased from a shop.

I'm quite tempted but would be interested to hear others feedback

Funny enough, I have been looking at these tonight. Im pretty sure a mate of mine got some in the past and likes them...

I just bought a 1974 Raleigh Stowaway for £38 on eBay, it was listed as being in good working condition. When I got it home I found that the back brake and gears didn't work, more fool me for not trying it before I handed over the cash, but my brother helped me to adjust the gears and he sorted out the brake. So a decent buy in the end, it's a nice looking little bike.

I just bought some dirt cheap Chinese lights to put on it, we'll see how they work out.

Here for rides.
A Strida Mk 3.2 'folding bike' At least I think it is a bike. It may just be some scaffold tubes and some plastic wheels. Needs a bit of tlc and fettling.

Most of my parts and gear come from ebay, except bikes and frames and club gear.

Major purchases in last year have been ; sram s60 wheelset +, T&ts dura ace wheelset + t&ts, Dura ace chainset, rear mech, front mech and brakes and 2 cassettes, 2 kcnc cassettes, stem and seatpost, 3 kmc chains, 3 shimano chains, 1 mavic wheel , 2dt swiss wheels, 2 pairs of sidi shoes, pair of shimano pods, giro Ionos helmet, and loads of other gear I can t remember.

I tend to use the same sellers unless, its a real second hand bargain but, as has been said you must know what your buying and, what its worth and I never use a private seller with les than 100 % feedback.

My British Eagle Touristique (not to be confused with today's brand - these were good quality bikes) was off ebay as mentioned in cafe. I was looking for a cheap nip-into-town bike and wasn't expecting much. Sure enough, it was in a poor state of care but a bit of time and some new bits put it back on the road. It proved to be such a pleasant bike to ride that since then it has been completely updated and re-enamelled and now I daren't leave it in town.

Another non-bike purchase for several £100 was fundamentally misdescribed by the seller. Paypal refunded me in full and the seller failed to collect the (big) item which was still worth quite bit.

I've bought a great pair of waterproof overpants with reflectors down the sides for a tenner reduced from 40 quid because of a slight fault, a jacket, top and some tyres and gloves. I always check ebay first, there's some great bargains for cyclists.

Bought a Peugeot rad Formula MTB last weekend, picked it up today. Don't laugh - i know it's crap, I only paid £40 for it and only want it for bashing around the city in the winter and for the other half to ride if and when she wants to. My 'other car' is a trek 1.2....
Have to get new tyres/tubes for it (but thought I would have to anyway) and get the rust off the chain and chainring, and adjust the front brake and chainring mechanism, but other than that it seems ok.

Probably about half of what I buy apart from food comes from ebay. Most people are genuine as long as you aren't buying laptops or mobile phones etc, and as long as you pay attention to feedback.

I prefer to buy second hand than new to reduce damage to the environment, and ebay makes that very easy by providing what is effectively a national second hand search engine and a remote payment system. I also think it's fantastic that ebay has allowed loads of people to start up specialist businesses that could never work if they had to rely on a local market only (second hand bike parts is a good example.) In my experience the customer service you get from sellers on ebay runs rings round the big name chains.

I just wish Royal Mail would give up this ridiculous commitment to daily deliveries whether you want them or not and let me opt for a single weekly dropoff on a Saturday morning when I'm actually going to be in.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Today i picked up a carrera tdf se for £90.

For the money a great 2nd bike all i needed to do was pump up the tyres and stick a saddle on it to make it ride-able.I will change the stem when i get chance for a shorter one from my collection but otherwise its good to go.

Also i have used ebay for...

Cheap Jerseys
Overshoes
Shoes
Chains
Cassettes
SPD pedals+ cleats

I bought a hardtail mtb for my six year old yesterday. Shimano and sram kit, couple of years old, good nick though only 21 quid. Price new circa 150. Bargain.
I also got a nice Raleigh chromo roadbike Sora group set with no wheels for 60 quid about a year ago.

I've never had a problem with ebay. Bought a host of different bits and bobs from there and both me and a flatmate have bought bikes from it.
I bought a Giant FCR for £100 which had only been ridden for approx 100miles. After a few minor adjustments it made it across Europe in a charity cycle from Istanbul to Paris!
I would say what most people have already eluded to which is that there is definitely some bargains to be had but only as long as you know what you are looking for and how much it would cost at either an lbs or online.

Bought some BBB overshoes that are ace for £15.95, got some new Endura Hummvee cycling trousers from Rutland Cycling which were a decent bit cheaper than anywhere else. I find ebay great for used DVD's, cd's etc. Just getting into cycling so never used it much that way. I have been ripped off buying a mobile phone before that never showed up, I have also bought a stolen mobile phone off there that had it's IMEI or whatever it is called blocked. I would personally never buy a mobile from there ever again. Ebay is great for some small items that normal online retailers would fleece you for postage. Selling things on Ebay is a different matter, I find the seller fees and Paypal fees to be a bit of a rip-off, I also do not like the way that a seller cannot leave negative feedback. This is relying on the assumption that all buyers are genuine, and although most are there are quite a lot that are not!
