Because he worked in 'light entertainment' I don't think he has got the credit he deserves as a communicator and performer. His ability to hold an audiance, his comic timing, professionalism, fast thinking and empathy should be celebrated.
Very sad. Loved listening to his radio breakfast show from my mid twenties as a professional driver and would often be in stitches at the wheel as a result of the humour he so skilfully shared. He made it all seem so spontaneous and effortless but I'm sure he worked incredibly hard behind the scenes. Would often just have to sit in my van to hear the end of a story when arriving at a customers premises.
Mornings just weren't the same when he finally stopped his breakfast show.....
.... the Eurovision Song Contest wasn't worth watching after Terry ceased to host it. Some may argue it wasn't worth watching when he did host it... but his charm, wit and sarcasm made that show. I'll have to dig out my 7" of The Floral Dance and give it a spin.
Always reminds me of going to work with my dad. His humour was soft, gentle, self effacing. Few could have got away with Janet and John, but you trusted Terry not to go too far. His Eurovision commentaries were legendary.
A great talent sorely missed.
