The cable car opens next month - £3.20 each way.

I may use it occasionally if I want to take a different route into work, but can I take my bike on board?

There was discussion on Greenwich Cyclists about this and I'm fairly sure the answer was yes. The seats apparently fold up to allow a bike in but you won't get many in one pod.

Apparently you can get 2 bikes in one pod by folding up seats and, in the process, reducing the pod's passenger capacity. However, the press release about the opening has been curiously silent about bikes. I suspect bikes might have been quietly dropped from the agenda.

I reckon if they allow bikes on at all it will outside peak hours, whatever they are going to be for this.

That link has died, the new link http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/transportaccessibility/23849.aspx says nought about bikes. Once again, getting across the Thames on a bike is seriously restricted east of Tower Bridge.
Bikes are welcome. There are some good pictures on the Sunday morning London ride thread in the informal rides section.

Not really Steve.. Greenwich Tunnel is up and running again. The Hilton Ferry takes bikes, The Rotherhithe Tunnel can be ridden with bike, though not for the faint hearted, then there is the Woolwich Ferry and the new Cable Car is bike friendly to the extreme.

Good to see you back on here.. been a while.

is the foot tunnel still shut at woolwhich I went that way earlier in the year one lift was working and the other one wasnt.

Back in the '60's I cycled through the Blackwell Tunnel southbound. I genuinely didn't see the "No Cycling" signs so didn't realise I wasn't supposed to be going through. Going into the tunnel and towards half way was very fast. I was staying with the traffic easily. Then the fumes that were laying at the lowest point got to me coupled with the longish drag out of the tunnel and it suddenly became hard work. I can see now one of the reasons they ban bikes.

I'm glad it was the '60's and not now with all the cameras. I think if I tried it now there would be a posse of police waiting for me at the exit. As it was nothing happened. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
