Only issue I had was the ride home, I was well light up, bright reflective clothing, I couldn't of cycled any closer to the curb with out clipping it, yet I got the worst abuse to date as a cyclist, both people were beeping and basically just off my back wheel they over took dangerously close while shouting abuse.
I pulled over and made sure my lights were working, my rear light was fine and positioned well, can I put it down to the fact it was a white van man and a kid driving a Saxo?

Yes, they sound like a pair of motons, and whatever is going on, try not to ride so close to the kerb, leave yourself somewhere to go if needed and certainly don't risk clipping the kerb with your pedal

I know it was silly to get that close to the curb, all I could think is they were sore that they needed to go all the way round a cyclist, I won't do that again.

I suppose it's just about getting a thicker skin and ignoring people like this, I made sure I didn't react as I didn't want the situations to get out of hand.

Although you shouldn't have to, perhaps if you really feel in danger, you could slow down or pull over. Sometimes it's not worth the aggro especially on dark narrow roads

oh for sure if I had the option to pull over I would've, I tried slowing down. the curb on that stretch of road is really high with hardly any breaks, I will avoid it after dark in the future, which is a shame as it's decent climb.
