A few months back, after a great sunday london ride with a few of the members on here, i was cycling home over the bridge on Croydon road (A222) between elmers end and croydon. The idiot overtook me across double white lines whilst we where going over a humped back bridge and he couldn't see on coming traffic, somehow he only just missed a head on collision and he promptly stopped and got out of the car and proceeded to mouth of at me for being in his way. See the video here..

Going over the same bridge today, with a mount that i'm testing for rear view on my contourHD. And again some nut job tries to overtake whilst we are going up the bridge and she can't see over.

Why do people think it's ok to do this? to save only seconds!

Woman + large 4x4 - are you sure she wasn't on the phone at the same time?

I noticed a dent in the near side door, probably where she hit the last cyclist she was trying to overtake.

I seem to recall you reporting the previous cement-brain moron who did this. Did you get any action from the Police on that one?

Loved that heads-up type display, btw, how did you do that?

It also comes across as being a bit sanctimonious to be so pulpity about HC rule 129 when you brag about flouting rule 112.

112

The horn. Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively.

Possibly exaggerating for effect, but the way that the flouting of the HC was portrayed (selecting it as the still for the video, for instance) was a little, IMO, hypocritical when gaz then went on to brag about blowing his horn to express his feelings.

People in glass blouses shouldn't show bones and all that stuff.

Actually, I would have thought that the sounding of the horn in this particular situation could easily have been interpreted as warning the 4x4 moron of Gaz's presence on the road as in "I'm taking up my rightful space on the road so keep your distance!". I would have (and indeed have on occasions) done the same. Or are we going to equate the use of a horn in anger with the endangering of someone's life via the manipulation of a ton of metal in a dangerous fashion?

I quite often toot like this. My intention is not aggressive, it's driver education so that hopefully next time they pass a cyclist they will think a little before doing quite so impatiently. Usually it involves a pushing out motion to the side. Anecdotally, it seems to have worked on most of the regular drivers on my commute.

bragging isn't the right term to use. The horn in general, in all vehicles, is used incorrectly and often in anger / frustration.

... and is that so different from saying "but, in general, people overtake bikes on solid white lines, often in anger/frustration..."

The last time I flicked through the HC, I didn't walk way with the impression it was a complete moral framework. The HC's views on abortion, homosexuality and the two-state solution are notoriously opaque. So, stepping away from the HC for a moment, we seem to be comparing dangerous, potentially life-threatening behaviour with someone making a loud squeaky sound from an old coke bottle and some tubes. Unless the driver of the M-Class is suffering from hyperacusis, it's not exactly equitable, is it?
