can you have a look at it... I lost a fiver today. So if it has a picture of the Queen on it... then it's mine.

I'd have bought something nice to drink if it were me but I suppose buying Stella there's an element of penance for picking up the fiver, so fair enough :stop:.

Twas at the Wincanton Classic in Holmfirth. I was walking behind a couple of local clubboys into a newsagent for a can of pop.

One of the guys fished in his back pocket for some cash, and when he pulled his hand out, a tenner fluttered down onto the pavement.
I picked it up, tapped the guy on the shoulder and told him he'd dropped something.

He bought me my can of coke.

You should have handed it in at the local Police station and got a receipt. In six months, if it's not claimed, it is legally yours. ( who is going to know the number on it, unless they are a real saddo )?
Anything lying in a public place is the property of the person who left or dropped it there. You were in effect stealing off the fiver's rightful owner.
Caught on CCTV, you can be arrested for illegally concealing someone else's property.

If you see a bike leant against a fence outside a shop, you cannot simply walk off with it saying "look what I found". That's theft.

Do the honest thing and take a fiver to the police station ( note the number first ) and state you found it and would like the owner chance to claim it.

You know you should.

Admin knows your details if a person who has mislaid a fiver in your area reads what you have posted. Cyclechat is not an organisation who harbour criminals.

I found a flattened £1 coin at a junction in the middle of nowhere 2 weeks ago. It always pays (no pun intended) to look carefully at the road surface.
