That's it - give me a camera... whatever it costs

The fella at the local garage always points out the deals they have on chocolate bars, I don't what he's trying to insinuate.

If you don't want to go with a helmet mount then they will both have to be frame mounted.
To get a clear image you will want to use aftermarket mounts, my suggestion is a RAM system. Could cost between 30-50 depending on what you go for.

For the best quality for money then the Contour ROAM is a great buy. coming in at the moment at £139 on amazon (these were as low as £120 last week). Full HD, waterproof, and comes with a 1/4inch camera mount (the threads aren't great, so don't over tighten!)

These can be mounted like this

and like this -

So just over 300 for a good setup. If you need more information about which mounts to buy and were from, let me know and I can provide product codes. Note you also need to think about memory cars, 16gb on amazon for less than a tenner x 2.

My next camera will be a GoPro 3 black, I like to think. GoPros are probably the best cameras by a small margin, but have the advantage/disadvantage of being bigger and more obvious cameras. This makes them look a little awkward, but it also helps the odd borderline driver manage his own behaviour better. Win!
Got that, really nice. Ordered the battery extension pack as it doesn't last long on 1080p 60fps!

Thanks a lot - that's really helpful.

I've been researching them this morning, and perhaps a helmet cam isn't the worst idea - I just thought it might be a bit bulky and over the top.

Do you have any view on that?

I suppose I'd prefer the footage not to be too jumpy, and some of the roads here are not exactly flat!

Be careful how you mount helmet cams, make sure the mount can break off, there are some images around the net of a guy on a MTB who got his head pierced by a helmet camera mounting bolt after an accident... not nice

Fair point, but as I said, I'm not really the sort of person that gets angry at close passes and the like.

But last night, I wanted to be able to ensure that the guy leaning out of his window received the appropriate action.

I'd have gladly paid the price of a camera, just for that one incident - people shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.
And how exactly is a camera going to help in that situation?

No advice on cameras, but just reading your first post where you said if there had been traffic you and sweary man with his mates would have had words.

Not a good idea. You're not going to get a grovelling apology from him and a shouty match in the street might bring you into contact with the next Kenneth Noye, will do nothing but get you even more het up and on a commute route possibly make you an enemy that will see you time and time again with a 2 ton weapon at their disposal.

Leave the verbals for the idiots, mutter your preferred insult under your breath and imagine what an unfulfilling sex life he must have to need to get his kicks being such a total to$$er in public and ride on.

I guess if you do want to get even tho a camera is the way to go, but remember when you do get it up and running, it will record what you say and do in any situation too so be sure to keep the red mist even more in check because anyone you show footage to will be judging both sides.

All fair points.

I guess we don't really know how we'd react until we're in that situation.

Yep, it shouldn't be like that but you'll reluctantly get used to it. in every life a little rain will fall, sadly as cycle commuters our rain tends to be a shouty w**ker showing off to his equally retarded mates.
