Ahhh.. The joys of doggy-sitting an 11 month old Cockerpoo who needs to go out for a tiddle half way through the night!
It should be able to go through the night by now.

Seems I'm becoming a regular member, as a gentleman of a certain age. I might have to ask my doc to put his finger up my bum. Sometimes things have to be done. Neither of us particularly want to but I guess he gets the slight plus of being paid.

Seriously though, I have other wee problems (leaks, dribbles) that are no doubt age related but suggest my prostate could do with checking. I don't suspect anything sinister (cancer etc) but possible enlargement.

As you were.

As a 2 times recipient of the FUTB, may I reassure you that it isn't painful or even 'uncomfortable', just a different sensation (well, it was for me)

Didn't sleep well last night.
I changed collie dog Henry's foot bandage last night, Henry was very agitated last night for some reason. Itching all over paving and rubbing himself over the duvet I was whining in his crate before that! So at 2am. I showered him to reduce his itching and put him in his crate. When I went to him this morning he had pulled off his bandage and was licking his leg which he was limping on. Rebanaged it and he's more settled. I cain't get to the vets till Thursday.

DRE is (according to my prostate surgeon) notoriously unreliable.

DRE was normal when I was in the stirrups for biopsy. Biopsy showed significant cancer requiring early surgery.

DRE plus PSA with MRI if either show abnormality.

I might have to ask my doc to put his finger up my bum.

He declined. Or didn't see the need to. Suits me either way. Previous blood tests showed my PSA levels to be good, and I had no other symptoms that would indicate prostate 'problems'. He did however prescribe omexel and another blood test.

The depth of prostate cancer screening seems very much GP dependent. I am high risk due to my father passing away due to prostate cancer and so requested PSA test through my GP despite having no symptoms. GP was very supportive and both PSA and DRA were normal. GP still thought worth having MRI for peace of mind sake, and it was only the MRI that then showed an area of concern. Subsequent biopsy then identified cancer, albeit Gleason group 1 so current treatment plan is just active observation and may not become an actual issue.
As it happens, it looks like radiotherapy for bowel cancer (which I have also subsequently been diagnosed with) has inadvertently zapped the prostate and so my latest PSA is now just 1.0.
