And it's happened again (as noted by @sevenfourate on Strava) - I've had to add an extra couple of miles onto the end of today's ride due to this bloody thing. To use his comment - #50k life
You need to plan your routes more carefully 🤣. To prevent the need to look for extra miles . I like the #50k life

I know right ! You take on a spur of the moment trip to the shops. Its lovely outside - so rightly that stretches out. Next thing you know you're enjoying yourself and that means you're 20+ miles deep.

THEN you remember this challenge ! And you (Grudgingly in a way - as this damned thing has now clearly got you by the b4lls ) carry on yet further in order to hit the magical 50k. Only to look down at the screen upon approaching home; to see on Strava you've only racked up a quite shameful 29 miles. Something you can never admit to on here. Or carry around inside you head

What comes after is to now be known as "The short Loop of shame".......

Just back in from my 2nd 50km of the month . For the last 3 months I been using the 50km rides as training rides for last Saturday's big ride which meant going hard and for most of that time the rides have been sub 2hrs ,today I hit the pootle button and did 2hr 5min and the difference in effort for those 5 to 10 mins is very noticeable a d I very much enjoyed the relaxed pace

I pushed preety hard'ish for me i'd say and did a 1 hour 48 not long ago (Ok for a old fatty on a Hybrid in my eyes). Then a while after i fancied a really gentle one - really taking in the sceneray as-is my Mantra. Only to find upon arriving home i was right around the 2 hour mark.

But the difference in those 10-12 minutes was night and day. Quick one i was hot, sweaty, knew about it after etc. 10-12 minutes slower and i could have had a full tracksuit on and not broken sweat. I litterally felt like i'd freewheeled around. Incredible how much prolonged effort it takes to go not too much quicker on paper........

Midday meeting in work today, so did a loop via Winterbourne, Almondsbury and out to Severn Beach riding under the Prince of Wales Bridge.

I then caught the train from Severn Beach to Avonmouth [ @13 rider I hope this is allowed as wahoo was paused therefore distance not included ].
Cycled over the Avonmouth Bridge to Portbury Dock for work meeting.

Left work and headed through the villages of Pill & Abbots Leigh before heading into Bristol at rush hour via the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Down Park Street and towards Temple Meads where I joined the Bristol - Bath cycled track to complete my journey home.

I nearly had to do the "loop of shame " on the end of today's 50km . My regular route has a few road closures on it so I was calculating on the fly if I go there and get back on route am I short of target . It came clear as I left the last village before home I would be just short ,no problem there is a slightly longer way home ,unless that route is closed due to what looked like a nasty accident at a junction so had to had the shorter way do a slight diversion then use the 2nd entrance to my estate to be sure and clock 31.5 miles 😁 so I didn't have to do another loop of shame around the estate #50km life 🤣

Monthly round up and last weekend warning . We have 18 riders fully posted up for September unfortunately we have 1 non declared incompletion as @kapelmuur has failed to recover from an injury . That leaves 4 riders yet to post a ride @iandg who is planning on Sunday to get a ride in so a nudge for @Spinney ,@Donger ,@Norry1

Did it yesterday, just about to post! 🫡

Got caught out again today just short of the mileage. I had this perfect image of my breakfast waiting for me at home and fully intended to pull in regardless ...just to prove I was not an addict.

Anyway ..I went around the block a bit in the end 😂😂

Next time....

Completely and utterly lost my cycling mojo at the beginning of August when we had to cancel our planned holiday in Annecy. I had been so looking forward to one last chance of taking on an Alp or two. My Challenge ride was the only one I did in August, and until today I hadn't gone near any of my bikes since. Today I took the chance to ride the Wye Valley Greenway with my cycling buddy and former colleague Simon before it closes for the winter on 1 Oct. Absolutely loved it. Only 18.6 miles done, from Sedbury in England to Llandogo in Wales and back via Tintern Abbey, but we squeezed in two cafes and a pub on the way and just took in the beautiful scenery. Got my mojo back. Will try to get a Challenge ride in on Monday or Tuesday to keep the run going. Thanks for the reminder.

Dog sitting, mother-in-law not well, holiday...... where's the month gone. Fortunately I'm ride leader for the local CTC club run on Sunday so should get a 50km+ ride in.

That's me out of the challenge, I didn't make the CTC ride and asked another member to lead the ride.

Flu vaccination on Thursday and took a reaction to it. A flare up of my polymyalgia symptoms - fatigue and general aching/muscle weakness - left me unwell over the weekend. Doubled my steroid dose to get body under control but working today and tomorrow so no time to get a ride in.
