I wonder if part of the reason that Sherlock is still popular with TV/Film/Radio companies is because they don't have to pay royalties due to Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle's work being in the public domain, so not protected by intellectual property laws such as copyright, trademark, or patent laws.
 
My favourite story is 'the musgrave ritual'

It was doctured quite heavily for the Brett series but still good and the filming location was Baddesley Clinton.... Coincedentally My favourite National trust house (visited It and lived It before i discovered the musgrave link)
