The amount of hate for cyclists

Milky, I worry about you reading local newspapers.

Try reading the Verderer's minutes!

Apparently there was a photograph of a child touching a pony!!!!!!!

That apparently requires urgent action

Interestingly though there is a list of the 76 animals killed 10% were killed by local motorists yet not one by a bicycle!

Reading the comment section, I can only conclude that most of the contributions came from people in some sort of secure unit. Or they should be. Scary thought that one of them could be behind your bike controlling a ton of car.

This is odd. I rode from Winch through to Bournemouth and back through the new forest today and crossed paths with the Wiggle event. All seemed fine to me. Only one moderately crap pass, no issues with the Sportive riders and the locals were in a mellow mood. There were plenty of hire bikes out and the riders seemed perfectly inoffensive.

There's a clique of the New Forest inhabitants that regard the NF as their back garden. It's not. It's a public space and they can go and feck themselves if that irks them.

Thanks also to the Forestry Commission Rangers at Boldrewood for subbing me a bottle of water from their stash. I thought the little toilet hut had a drinking fountain.

Has anyone noticed that the most visceral and angry comments are from people with no idea how to spell and construct a sentence? Do erudite people not hate cyclists, or do they just keep their anger in check? I really do worry about the people of this country when I read their ranting in local newspapers, I imagine them turning purple with rage and dropping dead of a heart attack all because a fellow road user held them up for ten seconds.

Education tends to help develop a sense of proportion.

From what I saw the Wiggle NF ride looked like a fairly low-key event. This is just the latest salvo in the Forest glitterati's grudge match to exclude anyone who isn't like them. The cycling crimes reported in the Daily Echo Chamber will be made up to stir up a bit of click-bait and justify further attempts to limit cycling in the Forest.

Anyone who rides regularly in the NF will know that the 40mph limit "is only for tourists". 75% of ponies are killed by local drivers. The vast, vast majority of sh1te in the verges has either been chucked out of a car window or, a more recent trend, flytipped out of the back of a builder's lorry, most likely with H plates.

A year or two back I took @Mattonsea (sadly no longer a regular visitor to the forum) on a ride down my ends. He's a commoner (I think) and has a farm in the NF. He's a very interesting listen on the subject of New Forest politics and I'd be happy for him to call out anything I've said that's gravy.
I think when ever you get a large group, esp when all male, there is a great potential for some of them to behave like morons, seems to happen in most things including cyclists - presumably it is some sort of strength in numbers mentality.
Agree totally... If you ever watch the TDF.it's awful..100's of men on bikes without Lights all over the road ...crashing..shouting and generally upsetting thousands of people who just want to cross the road!!
It makes my blood boil...bastids..

It's not even a forest.

It's new, hence the lack of trees. ;)

It has an "interesting" history where tens of villages were destroyed and their peasant occupants evicted to make way for the Forest. Left destitute and homeless

It has always been managed since. At one point much of the forestry was managed by the Royal Navy to feed the ongoing requirement for ships - Bucklers Hard gives examples of this a the museums

This comment is a new one to me:
Cyclists:
Remember you have to give way for passing motorists by ensuring an adequate space ahead of you for them to overtake and pull in to the left when they may need to.
????

I may have to send a link from an American Senator to the Verderers for consideration.....

In Montana they want declare cyclists as a "invasive species" and require a license accordingly

(Note the original legislative Document is quoted hence the capitals and I have changed the spacing)

I always like the fact that whenever you get concerned about sanity in the UK, the US shows us that there is always something worse
