517-1 declared. Amazing effort, now a few quick wickets and who knows, it's unlikely given the wicket but possible!

A draw, but a result that will have seriously damaged Australian confidence!

They will not be starting the 2nd Test in Perth on Friday wilth the same X1, whereas England are buoyant and confident and should stick to the same team.

Perth is fast and bouncey and it will be intetesting to see how the Aussie batsmen deal with England's tall pace attack!

Cook was man-of-the-match, for two important innings.

What a brilliant turnaround. Well done England. With a special well done to Trott.. nice to break Aussie legends records at the Gabba.

fantastic recovery, and, as Dayvo says, the Australians will be dented by this.

Is Ponting, for all his tenacity, able to work the bowling and fielding to put the Englisth batsmen under pressure? On this evidence, no.

Can Australia take twenty wickets? The Gabba was supposed to be the pitch that would allow them to do that very thing and they managed 11 - so, as of now, no.

Can England take 20 wickets? Yes.

Bring it on!!!!!!

I hope the Aussies won't be Perth - England will be in Adelaide!

Well done England - it must be really difficult playing in such conditions.

watching the highlights, the batting display of Trott and Cook is sublime. Not help by a total weak Aussie bowling display.

Cook looked completely unflustered. Very impressive indeed. And some of the bowling........

The Aussies surely wont pick Mitchell Johnson for the next game... which is a shame

His confidence must be completely shot... just like his bowling display

To be fair though, the wicket was very flat, a batters paradise. The aussies put on a decent number of runs as well, and the next test shall be the same deal. Getting 20 wickets will be tough for both sides, though England look the more likely outfit to do the job.

crikey moses. Australia lose two wickets before they get a run on the board, and another one a couple over later to leave them on 11-3. The loss of Katich was a comedy moment. He forgot about the bit where you run between the stumps......

Now 242-8 which may prove to be a decent score.

WICKET! Clarke 2 c Swann b Anderson (3rd over: Australia 11-3) I'm delirious. I can hardly type. What did I say? "Win the toss and bat?" I should resign right now. At least then I could leave my computer and run screaming down the street. Anderson has another one! Anderson has bowled seven balls and taken two wickets for one run. It was a bad shot by Michael Clarke, trying to cream a straight drive down the ground. The ball was too good for him, swinging in and then seaming away. It was another edge, straight to second slip. England's fielders are running around screaming like little girls. Who can blame them. Australia are disintegrating. "This is bloody inconvenient," says Ally Fogg, "I have a crucial meeting first thing in the morning. Thought I would just check the score on the way to bed. There goes my career." By the end of the over the score is up to 11, Watson having turned the first boundary of the innings away through square leg.

WICKET! Doherty 6 run out (80th Australia 227-8) This mob are a shambles. An utter shambles. Another farcical run out, as Doherty refuses to run for a quick single. He soon comes to regret that when the return throw comes in from Strauss and he's only half way down the wicket. "Been busy working," says Sarah Cox. "I really do have to stop watching don't I?"

243-9 and a testament to Englands superb ground fielding.

If it wasn't for The Hussey and Haddin show again we'd be even better off; but I'm being greedy!
