Well, if it worked so well last time, how about campaigning for him to be dropped again? He could do with the runs.I was all for dropping Cook before the first test in Australia in the last series over there.(2010). I think he ended up with an average over 100 and 3 centuries!

Indeed I was, Rich, but after lots of false dawns, he's come of age (almost) and is (almost) a first-choice middle order batsman. Still not a fan, though!
Bresnan did pretty well in the 2nd Test though IIRC with both bat and ball. I was also a sceptic too, I must confess.
Finn probably needed dropping but I'm not sure that Tremlett or Onions have done enough at county level to get back in at the moment. Long term I think Finn will be the one.

Lots of breast-beating about how outplayed England were in this match. Surprisingly little speculation as to whether it might well not have gone exactly the same way in the other direction had England won the toss, given the pitch and the weather.
Mind you, having said that I'm sure the Aussies' tails will be up for the last two. Wouldn't like to be in Cook's shoes when he wins the toss in the next one and goes in to open...

Well that's true - but you could use that argument for anything.
If Australia won the toss in the first test they may easily have won that - they only very narrowly lost despite losing what was agreed at the time to be an important toss to win.

Interest in this thread seems to be on the wane, not surprising, really, as England, despite retaining the Ashes, are in the process of handing the urn back to the Aussies in the winter.
England's batting is frail, and the bottle and hard graft that the Aussies have shown in spades since the 2nd Test, don't appear to be there for England.
Back to this Test: England need a lead of at least 300 and to bat as long as possible tomorrow, otherwise I predict an easy chase for Australia, and then a tense final Test for a won or drawn series.
