Done a bit of work on my Bass VI.

Modified the trem to lock it. Its as much use on a bass as an empty brown envelope to a politician, and affects tuning stability so dismantled and bolted solid. Its a reversible mod if ever needed. One can buy hard tail adaptor plates, but I want to maintain the original looks as much as possible.

Some people pay big moolah for uprated bridges, but brass bushings are available which sorts out the stability problem for £6 and, again, maintains OE looks so thats what I did.

Ive not shimmed the neck, string break over angle is OK and Im not a fan of shimming unless absolutely unavoidable.

Indian Laurel fingerboard oiled, darkens it up and lifts out the grain for a more rosewood like appearance.

Heavier gauge strings ordered.

They are great bits of kit, brilliant fun to play with a distinctive tone and an interesting history, but the design is flawed and takes just a minor bit of tweaking to optimise.

I'll report back when it's reassembled and tested.

A friend fetched his Bass VI round last week. The fat E string kept slipping off the threaded saddle, so i filed a groove in it and raised the action a tad to compensate. I quite enjoy fettling but when it's someone else's instrument even the simple jobs seem daunting.

Wow. What an experience...
I remember taping this when it was live. Very good intro in Money for Nothing. Terry Williams rocking it. Clapton puts his signature blues man touch to the song.

It was getting a bit Italian suits and mullets by then, still great though.

That Tele sold for 450k last year. Saw Knopfler play in Claptons band as second gtr. The suits were the look around that time influenced by Clapton

Week and half in, I'm still trying to get to grips with reading bass clef. I can read treble clef pretty well because of the classical guitar lessons, and thus I know where all the notes are on the guitar, but that darn bass clef... I'll get there, though, and then my treat myself to a good book (recommendations welcome!).

Had another go at a walking bass over a blues this afternoon - just using the standard three or four patterns that all the YT videos on walking bass refer to. Bass is plugged straight into the PC - no amp or pre-amp yet. Just trying to see if I can lock in and play something a horn player or guitar player would be happy to solo over.
