We've been doing the dry January thing for many years now and this one has been one of the best. The competitive element coming from the numbers doing it this year and the online forums (fora?) devoted to it has driven us on to make more sacrifices than normal in order to lose more weight! I'm normally 72-74 kilos over the winter but cutting the Don Revie can get me down to just under 70. This year, with one fasting day and low carbs all month, on top of not drinking at all, has seen my weight fall to 67.5 so I'm well pleased with that.

Anyone else managed to stick to it?

I'm starting it a bit late. When I sober up.

It's been an excellent winter here and I'm sure I am fitter than I was at the same stage in the last few years. Partly helped by filling in a pond and building a patio tho'.

As for weight, 80 is my 67.5. I got down to it after cycling in the alps last year, now I need to try again:sad:

Not had a drink for 694 days (but who's counting), that means that by the Gubmint's recommended alcohol input recommendations I am currently 230 bottle of decent red in credit. Now if there was only a market for unused alcohol units I could afford a new bike

I was encouraged to do dry January by my daughter and I have found it ok. I have been true to my word and I have not touched a drop. There were a couple of times when I got the urge to have a drink, but with a little bit of willpower got through it. I am now back at work as well, after being off sick for nearly 8 months so that has helped considerately. On the railway we have a very strict drinking policy, so my consumption will now be greatly lessened. Already I have taken two inches off the waist and I do feel a lot better, once this rubbish weather has passed I can get out again for much longer rides to help with the weight loss, I am currently 77kgs. just over 12 stone which I think is not so bad. I was 90kgs 14 stone, after Christmas. :bicycle:

1848 here . Fortunately, I completely lost the urge to drink several years ago, so now it just feels normal not to drink alcohol.

My Daughter was born on Boxing day and i've not had a drink since, what with night feeds etc, I can honestly say i've not missed it. Think I'll keep it up. I wouldn't class myself as a big drinker but I do enjoy a pint or five on a friday/Saturday night.

I was drinking too much ale for a start, and I went on a strict diet, got out on the bike as much as possible, 40-50 mile rides, and when i couldn't get out I went onto the turbo trainer. Since stopping the beer the weight has fallen off.
