People get too wrapped up in this "Best time to buy a bike"

If you don't have a bike, then buy one ASAP. We'll probably get about 10 "good" cycling days before next March, around 20 "Average" cycling days and a ton of crappy ones. This weekend looks alright, so if you don't have a bike, then you've already missed 2.

If you have a bike and you're looking to scratch the N+1 itch, then it's just a case of narrowing your list to what you're looking for and waiting to pick up a deal on your chosen bike/s. That could be any time.

If you're buying secondhand then do it just after the clocks go back. There's usually a glut of bikes on the market and prices drop.

Why is there a glut of bikes on the market after the clocks go back ?

If your not a bike snob needing the very latest edition (usually just a new paint job) then try to get a 2011 bike (not 2012) when the 2013 ones come into the shops. usually a few left at heavilly discounted price.

On the other hand though, a bike will last you several years and the little bit saved now will be forgotten by then.

Whatever you buy make sure its the correct size, its not a bargain if you dont enjoy riding it because the frame is too big/small.

Because it gets darker earlier and the weather usually gets worse as well. People who've bought a bike for the summer are then left with something that they no longer use but is taking up space.
