If that was literally true, AFS, I don't think what you are living in would be called a valley bed.

I think that would be a lake.

Ah, course, a cwm! Never made the connection.

....O-level geography's come through at last! - a cirque cut off into a bowl shape by the side moraine left behind by a glacier, sometimes with a circular tarn in it- have you still got a tarn AFS?

Cwm means Valley in Welsh. It is not "quite" the same as a Cwm,Corrie or Cirque. The Tarn has vanished. That aside it is a perfect example of glacial valley.

All those hours looking at hanging valleys, U-shaped glaciated valleys, drumlins, cirques, tarns and side/ terminal moraines!

Could you do one now through the Open University? Friend of ours finished a French degree in his mid fifties through the OU... now he's going to do a Ph.D.

My brain is not what it was. Concentration for any period of time is a huge problem for me

I agree the OU is a great way to learn and get back into it. I did my degree with the OU and while i may be biased i can honestly say they made all the other places i did education with look positively amateur. Its well worth a look and try and you meet some great people.

When a joke takes this much explaining, it probably wasn't worth writing...
Whilst the river has cut a swathe through the valley the remaining countryside is hilly on all sides.
So, as I said, not every way out is up hill, or you'd live in a lake, not a valley. ;)
