The running costs must be astronomical.

A lot of the VW Transporter crew and cyclists who have set their vans up with cushy sleeping quarters for one and storage for a couple of bicycles. The LWB version is especially sought after for that purpose.

Hmmm, Portmeirion is on our shortlist for a mini break, although may well be in winter so no pool open and the heritage railway nearby stops in winter too. Sounds like you were impressed and would recommend it?

To clarify we'd be hotel / village rooms not camping or van-ing.

It's nice, good for short walks etc. The camper site was excellent and very good value. Always meant to stay in the rooms/hotel but never got round to it. Food is good - we checked into the Brasserie in the Castle (just outside the grounds as it has a more extensive menu. The Hotel was a bit 'seafoodie' for me. It's not a massive place at all but very pleasant. Back at the camper site for our Anniversary, and will eat at the brasserie again.

Just thought I'd report back having just returned from Portmeirion.

We thought it was super, the food was magnificent, we did the 6 course taster on the final night (which ended up being 9 with amuse bouche and extras). Going to not eat for week now!

there was a Xmas market on over the weekend which was actually pretty good (i normally hate those things) but it was a lot of local made stuff (not just bought in chinese tat marked up for tourists). Also nice just strolling around the village noticing different features and touch didnt notice when you walk past something previously.

I will say what Wales lacks in vowels in makes up for in rain though but would still recommend a short break there.

We visited PortMerion when I used to live in that part of the World

Always outside tourist season because we lived there

but my main thought about it was all the going on about its beauty was rather messed up if you look at the local area and realise how beautiful it looked before the place was built
I am sure the hotel is great - I have often heard excellent report from it - but as for the whole place I was always rather underwhelmed

Nope. I prefer to stick my arriss out the window and crap al fresco. My dislike for crapping in a cupboard and taking the Poo Suitcase on the morning Fudge Trudge is a small part of the reason the old Eddis went.

We have a three day stop in Llangollen planned for July - two concerts on at the pavilion on consecutive nights, so stopping at a new camper site just outside of the village. Visit planned to shell island again, as soon as we are forecast a dry weekend.

Ah, nice.

They do make a load of 'stuff' for VW's. You don't get that for the Stellantis vehicles - which is good and wallet friendly.

Indeed. The VW does seem to regularly empty my wallet for shiny but otherwise unnecessary stuff!
