Advent calenders with chocolate in them, my kids get them thanks to Mrs FF... makes me weep really

Thank God, another voice of reason, they'll be cracking open the choccy advent calendars tomorrow morningxx( I managed to keep them at bay for several years but they've crept in. I hate the commercial aspect of Xmas but am too soft to inflict my grumpiness on my kids. However my wife and I take no part in valentines day and only acknowledge Mothers/Fathers day for our parents, not for us. I don't send Xmas cards but donate some money to charity instead.

I'm holding on to a bit though, we still go for a walk or bike ride on Xmas morning, whatever the weather:evil:

Push the boat out at Xmas and the one thing guaranteed is that you'll be helping some subhuman sales/marketing scum to earn a big bonus...................Merry Xmas:biggrin:

Does this count as humbug?
For the last few years the Pie household has been having for christmas dinner, not turkey but...........bacon sandwiches

Kids are far too busy with new toys/ not really interested anyway. Neither I nor my wife really want to spend several hours cooking then clearing up afterwards - its our christmas as well. We do go to the MiL later on for a buffet thing she does though.
Our main meal sort of follows other countries I've been too in that we have it on Christmas eve.

Having spent most of my Christmas Days away from home in the last several years I must admit that when I was home last year I thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. People were generally more happy, with some I've never seen before saying hello, Merry Christmas and the like, it was really nice. To go shopping in the local Malls and hearing Christmas Carols being played over the sound system was also great for me. Going to one of the many Church services over the Christmas period is also someting that gives me an uplift. It's also a time when I make telephone calls back to family in the UK and I know they enjoy that as much as me. Generally speaking for me it's a time of happiness and I don't go spending huge sums of money to get that enjoyment.!!

"XMAS" - purrrllleeeaaazzze!!!!! Moderators, see to it, all the posts on this thread need editing except MacB's. Dammit, I even pronounce it "Xmas" now....:becool:

Incidentally, why don't we have a 'scrooge' smiley? :becool::blush:

Now I've mentioned it, I'm sure someone will oblige and find one for us!

But remember, in the book, Scrooge becomes a reformed character and approves Xmas at the end. Bah!

Pete, I would thoroughly recommend the film Bad Santa, if you haven't seen it treat yourself.

Whingers (no offence, MacB:evil:) complain about the long build up to Christmas but I believe that it is decreasing year on year. The TV adverts are less intrusive than they were a few years ago and there are less of them. I don't really notice the build up these days. Maybe not working in an office or with other people helps!

Have they banned TV childrens' toys adverts?

Still plenty of ads aimed at kids, still the same spiel, making a pile of cr*p look good. I still remember getting Flightdeck one year and the only fun was putting it together, in operation is was rather a let down. To be honest the ads don't matter so much now thanks to V+/Sky+ systems, I rarely see an ad.

Your not working with others probably helps them more than it helps you:evil:
