- but I've just discovered that I need to eat and drink a lot more than I have been doing.

I found that one out the hard way, a few years back. I did actually stop, at a cafe, but it was too little too late. I flaked out, face planted the concrete floor, and ended up in the back of an ambulance:laugh:

Some fantastic cafe suggestions! It seems stops are very popular!

That polka dot cafe is wonderful, reminds me of an ice-cream parlour in Ripon that I passed but I was so cooked I just wanted to get back asap!

I agree with how it's quite a social thing. A lot of the non-stoppers ride alone which is what I do so it's a little bit pointless to stop and have a coffee with yourself. I suppose you could get to know the shop/ pub and the staff but it still feels little bit weird to me!

I'm a lone rider as well, but one of my regular rides is a purely social ride, it involves a meet up with friends for a gossip, with my other regular ride there's often friends in the cafe to talk to, or I chat to people I meet, and if not I'll spend time on the intetnet on my phone.

There are some popular cafes that are notorious for bike theft, the cafe in Scorton, Lancashire for example. It's near the A6 and a white van can disappear in several directions from the village. It is also close to Lancaster and not far from Preston or even Manchester if thieves fancy a day out nicking bikes.

Yet 500 yards up the hill on the east side of the M6 there's a lovely cafe called The Apple Store where you can sit and keep an eye on your bike and it's unknown to thieves.

This is very true but be aware the Apple Store now provides a cycle parking area. It’s a few lengths of 3x2 nailed to posts. The area is near the path and road, screened by trees and not visible from the cafe.

I understand why they’ve done this but it needed a lot more thought. From their view bikes stacked everywhere isn’t good for non cycling customers. On the other hand we may start going elsewhere if we have to use this area.

I would love to stop - but having a young family means that stopping would involve a shorter ride and an earlier wake up. None of the guys I ride with want to stop as we are all in the same boat, even a puncture is treated like an F1 pitstop.

All Day Breakfast and a big mug of tea, it's no wonder I've put on more weight. ^_^

Riding on my own (which is 95% of the time) I don't bother with a cafe.stop. Bit boring sitting in a cafe on your own. On longer solo rides I'll refuel at a co-op or similar

On the rare occasions I'm.ridong with others we will have a cafe stop if it's 50+ miles

Cc rides are a different matter of course. Mine tend.to be cafe stops with a bit of cycling interspersed
