And because choosing opinion over fact is an abomination.

Especially when those opinions keep preventing people from making fact- based choices in many countries, and one of our best safeguards against that happening in the UK is that the majority still haven't given in to the emotional blackmail of the helmetted minority.

It's the same old stuff time and time again, haven't seen anyone questioning @fossyant opinions, just someone who agrees with @fossyant opinions, why is that?

In @fossyant opinion a helmet was beneficial, anecdotal maybe, but it backs up what I and others have said regarding helmet use by us or our friends people we know, regarding accidents and the effectiveness of helmets in some cases.

You're coming across, possibly unintentionally, as a little bit petulant now. I linked to your post cos it was the last in the line and also because it re-inforced the "friends and people we know" aspect.

You haven't seen anyone questioning fossyants opinions? Really?
Anyway, it's your MO, you'll pick a single line from an article or a comment from another poster which you will desperately cling on to as if it proves something whilst steadfastly ignoring every other scrap of information which has been put to you. It reminds me of some creationists who upon hearing an evolutionist saying, "Well we're not quite sure about that bit" will reply with "See, they don't know everything do they!!" As if this somehow proves that they were right all along and God did it.

Selective blindness? More seriously: firstly, there's probably a bit of reluctance to challenge someone who is currently recovering from a helmet-irrelevant serious injury collision which seems to have been entirely motorist-inflicted (he was right-crossed at short range despite being legally lit and in full view IIRC) - at least that makes me more reluctant. I want him to be back enjoying cycling again, not thinking about what body armour he uses.

Secondly, @fossyant gave his primary reason for wearing as because he had to wear one while racing, so really my main irritation with his wearing is actually an irritation with UCI being anti-choice which I feel I already write too much about. His post also acknowledged that it more often saved him from gravel rash than anything else and I think the point about unrepeatability of specific incidents has been made often enough already during this discussion that no-one felt like repeating it.

Compare all that with someone persistently claiming that helmet-wearing is better safer than sorry and seeming impervious to pretty much everything...

Well, I think the conclusion he expressed over in "Fossyant is down"/"Fossyant is back up" was basically that the error was commuting by cycling across south Manchester where it sounds like there are too many incompetent motorists, they've gone feral and the police aren't properly investigating some collisions, so he's stopped doing that commute for now.

If he thought it was all about hard hats and stuff, he might have tried this instead and I hope we'd've tried to talk him out of it
