Because the council will claim poverty to central government when they have closed libraries, parks and not spent on the highways but have spent a large portion on themselves for new offices.

And how much of that is down to cycling facilities? The car park was already there for a start.

Peanuts

In fact, it might be beneficial long term. Less days taken off sick, more productive workforce.

If you want to lower the council tax, pick on local govt pensions, not some scheme which is at the margins.

Well jelly me.

We've had a new building built for one of the Faculties, and it's got no cycle facilities, other than outside sheffield stands. We're hoping the next build does have some - it's been specified, and it's only because it has a sports hall in it that there is going to be changing. The offices are all open plan, so no smelly cycling gear all over the place.

Thats very nice !!

WE have outdoor bike stands but the lockers are fully enclosed so if you get wet or to sweaty you end up putting damp clothing on for the return trip, if you need to dry something then you have to use your ingenuity to find somewhere to dry your clothes as we are not office based so we have no access to a room or dryer.

Very lucky at my place, very secure covered/enclosed bike shed with solid stands to lock bike to, and my own locker and use of 12 showers which are always free. so can't complain.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones...

Every WC in our place also has a shower. Locker room with drying facilities. Undercover parking, and given that I work next to a building filled with men with guns, I'm not really under any obligation to lock my bike up if I choose not to. We also have an active Bike User Group, which means that we also have a workshop, with a repair stand and a full complement of tools.

We have stands outside but under cover....although we can bring the bikes into the office so long as we keep them out of the way (our offices are on one level) We have security on the gates but i would still lock the bike up. Apparently we also have a drying room, tumble dryer and clothes lines for hanging wet clothing up. We have showers in each of the toilet blocks so i would guess at 6 showers available at the minute....nothing compared to the OP but a lot more than some posters. Not sure how many cyclists we have out of over 300 people...but i suspect its less than 10...in summer....Will be moving site sometimein the future so trying to ensure we at least maintain the level of facilities we have, although saying that not used any of them yet as still waiting for my bike:cursing:

Impressive.
I am able to store my bike at work either in a secure brick shed or indoors, which I do when its wet in a warm location.
I am able to shower and launder clothing as required although am spoilt by the fact our housekeeper often insists on doing this for me and has been known to iron my stuff , despite being told its not necessary.
On.cold days I have even found my kit on the radiator for when its time to leave for home.
Employer even allows me to complete cycle repairs at work during works time.
A colleague who enjoys sewing repairs my kit whenever I have the need.

I know this may sound to good to be true , but does actually happen.

Think I'm spoilt

matron let me out under my own recognisances, :hyper: sucker!
as there is only parking for the upper crust of the council 140 spaces and 2000 staff i think when the weather picks up we may have some people come in by bike.
i don't think we will get any thing like the numbers of riders i would like to see, fantastic facilities are not the thing that will get commuters coming in on bike,s it is one less excuse. but it is the roads around the town and the way people drive, that will decide how many we get.
the local drivers are openly hostile, unlike 3 miles down the road in Sheffield which i find very bike friendly. if we could get the police to do some proactive enforcement for a couple of weeks to get the message across, that drivers must behave properly around bikes it might help.

there was consultation with ctc i think  re what to put in place but non with staff, how are to use the place:rolleyes:

the cost of the bike part was a eu thing, about sustainable development ect, so in fact the bike facilities are paying for a big chunk of the building.

fat cat public sector pensions in local government are a myth, go to http://www.unison.org.uk/pensions/myths.asp and please do not perpetuate the lie.

Wow! Some of you are so spoilt! (yes, jealousy is oozing out of me!)
I have to get changed in the one small toilet that we have (I have to share it with the other 28 men in my department!) Not a shower in sight.....
We have no lockers down our end of the building but as my van is my office I take everything with me - inc wet gear!
My biggest gripe with my employers is the old cycle shed being in the exposed far corner of the carpark.....even though they have managed to erect many nice new smoking bus shelter type things right outside the doors!

We're spoilt here too. Can't get more secure than a police station tbh. Only one shower in my station but then only two of us use it.
In April I move to our main station. Loads of secure parking. showers and drying room. Only issue is that the resident petrol heads (traffic officers) are nearly all cycling commuters.. Traffic Drones being pro bike, whats that all about?
