I used to ride a motorbike and there was a 90% chance you'd get a nod off a fellow biker.

Whilst cycling down a rather large shared promenade earlier it struck me that this pleasantry isn't really used by cyclists, at least not where I am.

Are there any types of cycling gestures used by cyclists where you live/ride/commute etc?

Do you only ride in towns? Out on country roads it's very commonplace for cyclists to say hi or to nod or wave. There are threads galore on here about it, and GCN even did a light hearted video on the supposed etiquette.

This is a tough call. The OP isn't really complaining or posting a needy rant that cyclists are not saying hello, especially stuck up roadies. However I am still hope full for others to join the thread to do just that.

Chrimbo is coming so need those extra pennies.

It's more of an observation and I thought there'd be some kind of universal acknowledgement when your on two wheels.

I'm a northener, we are all friendly up this neck of the woods, I nod, wave, say good morning and offer to buy the first round of drinks................you won't find that down south:laugh:
I detect irony and i ve never bought into the idea that northerners are inherently better/frendlier/nicer, but it does seem to me when cycling back up north that you get more greetings/acknowledgements from fellow cyclists. Particularly noticable from the full-on racing crowd.

I usually do a cheery 'Hello' or somesuch with wave, if no response a cheery 'F* you' swiftly follows..

You missed sexier, funnier, more attractive.....but your list is a good start nonetheless

I reckon 90% "let on" around here. I don't mind if they don't....except one category. If I'm overtaken (an all too frequent occurrence) and the overtaker doesn't say anything....how very dare they

Here in the North we always exchange pleasantries, just occasionally I may come across a rude miserable looking rider and get nothing, I conclude that they must be sad southerners on a day trip!

If the other cyclist is wearing a hat I like to stop and have a chat about hats. However, what usually happens is some really, and I mean REALLY, fugly people show up and start showing us their hats too.

I carry two hats with me at all times but may fall in to the fugly category.
