The Cyclists Nod... And Other Gestures

I detect irony and i ve never bought into the idea that northerners are inherently better/frendlier/nicer, but it does seem to me when cycling back up north that you get more greetings/acknowledgements from fellow cyclists. Particularly noticable from the full-on racing crowd.

You missed sexier, funnier, more attractive.....but your list is a good start nonetheless

I reckon 90% "let on" around here. I don't mind if they don't....except one category. If I'm overtaken (an all too frequent occurrence) and the overtaker doesn't say anything....how very dare they
Northerners are happy when cycling as they'e usually on their way/back from the offy with 4 cans of special brew or on their way to the dole office.

Southerners are very friendly with each other, we just don't nod to anyone who looks like a northerner as we don't always want to buy a Big Issue.

If the other cyclist is wearing a hat I like to stop and have a chat about hats. However, what usually happens is some really, and I mean REALLY, fugly people show up and start showing us their hats too.

I hate it when that happens.

What's a 'northerner'?

Urban dictionary defines it as...

Anybody who lives north of Nottingham. Generally a friendly species who enjoy greeting as many people as possible, talk in an undecipherable slang and having tea as the evening meal. Home to a fair few chavs but this pales in comparison to the one's which reside in London.

Southerners can't afford Special Brew, they're too skint after paying their rent or mortgages.

They're also unfriendly, as anyone would be, crammed up against each other's sweaty armpits on trains, doing their three-hour each way commutes to their office jobs where they get patronised for twelve hours (eight paid badly, the other four unpaid), in order to earn *just* enough to stave off homelessness.

I'd be pretty miserable, too, if it wasn't for the hats.

I'm sorry but don't fully understand your post. Not sure I know what rent, mortgage, trains are?

They are things on which the people who turn up to make your coffee, clean your shoes and wipe your bum spend the pittance you furnish them with, m'lud.
