You often here moans about how much cycling costs us, but this bike on the Ribble site shows how much more we used to pay for a lot less -

Back in 1990 I bought a Dynatec 700 with a seven speed Shimano 600 groupset, crap wheels and tyres and I paid £700 for it. That's £1556.69 at todays prices according to my inflation calculator.

Back in the mid -late 70's a good all campag bike would be £400, that's £2,500 in new money. I wonder how much a top spec club type bike would cost now?

I'd suggest 'almost all' is far more accurate than 'some'

When I look at my meagre savings in the bank account, my bank manager tells me he can't pay much interest due to such low inflation.

Maybe if you bought them overseas? Maybe dealers are taking advantage and making more margin to help them pay increasing business and employment costs?

You can always buy from Europe. I recently bought some Fulcrum Zeros from Bike24 for under £700, they're currently £950 at Wiggle.

Bikey stuff is mainly from Taiwan and the Taiwanese Dollar / British Pound is largely unchanged in the past 5 years.

Chinese stuff has been getting progressively more expensive. About 12 years ago it was RMB15/£, now it's about 10
