I came home to find some daffodils had been enticed to bloom in the spring sunshine this afternoon, but I think the mower can remain in hibernation for a bit yet.

Did mine a couple of weeks ago, and raked a layer of compost over it this weekend. Once the compost beds in a bit I'll rake out all the ghost teabags - joys of home made compost

Right then, forget helmets. Does anyone think there's any point in scarifying?

My dad maintained a crown green bowling lawn for more than twenty years and his opinion on scarifying couldn't be printed yet under current obscenity laws!

Bloody hell Mort - I can hardly be arsed to mow it let alone get involved in all that!!!

On another note, I bought 30m of 'trimmer line' today to restring my strimmer, cost me over £5 - I bought the strimmer in a garage sale and it cost me £2.50 and now I've had to spend more than twice that..gasp...I can feel a Victor Meldrew moment coming on...nurse, the screens!

Yep, i cut mine two weeks ago, just to take the top off, it needs another trim now to make it look a bit neat.

I think Scarifying is more for the Autumn. May be just a light tickling with a spring lawn rake to get the thatch out. A bit of aeration with a fork if it gets a lot of foot traffic.
If it goes brown and dies I did n't say anything

if you live in the North west, then Green thumb from deeside are a company worth speaking to if you have a lawn you want to look spot on.

My dad has been using them for 2 years now as the lawns at his house were in a terrible condition, they came out and did all sort of tests and strange stuff then a few weks later gave a report on what was needed. he employed them and fair do's the sceptic in me has been silenced. the lawns are top notch now.

they are not dear either.

I have no ceonnection with gereen thumb other than my dad is very happy with the results

No, I'm waiting for the snowdrops to die back, once they have died back then the strimmer will be brought out.

Amazingly the mower started quite easily! And on last years petrol. I can't afford this years, soon we will have to buy a sheep.

My lawnmower (a hover wotsit) was bought by my mother in 1986... the blades are as blunt as James Blunt living in Blunt House in Bluntland... not sure if I can get another summer out of it
