The fact there are only thre doesn't make the lowest of those three (by some way) into a "major European trophy".

It is only lower level leagues plus those eliminated from the Europa league playoffs who compete for it.

We all know it’s status as the third cup.
It did make me laugh last night that the commentators kept saying that Chelsea are the first team to win all 3 European trophies. But that ignores the fact that the really good teams dont ever enter this one.
but if you are in the competition you might as well try to win it. And Chelsea played their reserves for most of the group stages. They even played a 16 year old.
Last night they had no player older than 27.

I absolutely agree it is worth trying to win once you are in it. But that still really doesn't make it a "major" trophy.

True. But irrelevant. I'm not suggesting any team in it shouldn't try to win it.

I'd suggest the Conference league is roughly the European equivalent of the FA Trophy competition in English football.

Now those were worthwhile exciting competition I took a lot of interest in. I can't remember when I last watched a modern European game. I've no idea who is in the CL final.
