And yet you said this :

"Something that is depressingly predictable is rugby fans lecturing football fans on what's wrong with their sport, especially when it comes to the relationship between players and officials."

So it seems you are interested in rugby refereeing.

Nope. You, a rugby fan, were the one that brought player - referee relations up.

And what happened in the first game of said football?
Maybe you'd rather pretend everything is rosy.

Doesn't matter if it's first post or the millionth, the fact is unfortunately some things never change.

And whole point of my original post was despite all these measures nothing ever changes.

And what everybody else is saying is that you are wrong.

It was ONE person, it is not symptomatic of football, it has become fairly rare on football grounds, but you are never going to completely stamp it out, anywhere.

Absolutely. I only read about it after the event and I'm glad I didn't see what was said but I can imagine. Our supporters association has sponsored her shirt for the season which is cracking.

Her response was brilliant too:

She scored today as well, beat St Johnstone 6 - 2.

Good day for the chaps as well, beating Dundee It's 2 -1 to get through to the League Cup quarter finals.

The Eze disallowed goal is a new one on me.
I wasn’t aware of the 1m rule.
No, I didn't know that rule. I think it was foul play by Cucurella. A player wouldn't get away with pushing another like that in other circumstances, especially in the penalty area.

If a defender pushed an attacking player over in the area in a similar manner it would be a penalty.

Whichever rule the referee applied I think the disallowed goal was correct.

@Chislenko I don't know the full ins and outs, but I don't think he put any money in. His pal bought the club, having Robbie as Director of Football (and another has since come in with cash) and Robbie didn't take any wages (when the manager) last season. Robbie certainly puts the hours in on the footballing side of things and is very approachable when at the club. I wish him well.

Robbie Savage reads Cyclechat!!

He must do, as after I put an entry in several pages ago wishing him well in his new manager job at Forest Green, after leaving Macclesfield, I've been invited as his* guest to their match tomorrow evening! Meal beforehand, the works.

* not strictly true, my pal was invited and he is taking me along, but I'm claiming that as a win.

That was an interesting evening out. Travelled to Forest Green (passing what looked like a huge pile of offal on the M5, presumably a lorry dropped it's load from the abattoir). Forest Green's ground is just outside Nailsworth, a small village outside Stroud. It's a picturesque spot, you are driving through countryside, the Nailsworth sign appears and the ground is just there. It's a small ground, probably 5000 capacity max and it's hard to believe that relatively recently they were in Division 1, playing the likes of Sheffield Wednesday.
Meal was good, corn soup and a butterbean tikka massala, both very tasty.
Had a chat with Robbie Savage before the game, he's nuts about football, seemed to know the score of every team in every division. He talked about how he's trying to get the team playing and touched on his disappointment that some Macc fans slated him for leaving. He truly is upset at that.
Also spoke with Dale Vince, the owner - he was interested in our views of Robbie Savage. He's a bit of a wacky guy, we said that we had wondered about the dress code for VIPs and he said "do I look like I care about a dress code?" (he was wearing a very flowery shirt).
Match was a good one, Forest Green won 4-0, which was harsh on Sutton, crowd about 2000, perhaps 100 Sutton fans, kudos to them for their journey on a weekday night.
The advertising hoardings around the ground had messages like "since the start of the match 365,000 tons of CO2 have been released into the atmosphere" (I presume that's worldwide, not just there!) and "Free Palestine", there was also a Palestinian flag flying.
On the way home (about midnight) Robbie Savage phoned my pal and talked about the match and he thanked us both for coming. That was a nice touch.
Forest Green are in pink, Sutton in yellow.

Robbie Savage managing Forest Green Rovers has broken my head. It's like if you told me that Bob Mortimer had been made Minister for Railways or something

Something tells me that Bob Mortimer would do a good job! 😉

Next season I look forward to supporting the team with the biggest stadium in the Championship. Two games in, rock bottom with no points, lifeless performances and a goal difference of -7
I was there last night.What a s**t show.
A manager who is tactless and a club run by a little tight a***d weasel.
If we can't bring in at least two decent midfielders in the nearly shutting transfer window we are as you said looking like candidates for the Championship.

Tottenham fans complain about Levy, but they don't know how lucky they are. A brand new "Proper" football stadium, and last year aside never in any danger of losing their top tier status. They won the Conference too, and unlike us who had a miserable season immediately afterwards they look to be on course for a good one, maximum points after an away win at Man City.

Two games in, top of the league, 6-0 in goals and Eze nicked from in front of Sp*rs noses. I'm enjoying that.
Injuries to Havertz, Ødegaard and Saka the less fun side of it.

BTW - if you haven't heard of Max Dowman before, now is the time to start getting excited, the kid is ridiculous. I don't like hyping 15 yr olds, but he is genuinely going to be one of those players that makes football worth watching. His feet are so quick, and his dribbling is fast and direct and built out of balance and touch, not tricks. In that respect (and I'm NOT claiming parity in quality here) he reminds of Messi - no stepovers, just feints and control.
