Gloomy mood at work today, I think nufc.com sum it up quite well...
Rebel without a clause
Three years to the day - and almost to the minute that he scored his first Newcastle goal at Anfield - the transfer of Alexander Isak to Liverpool was agreed on Sunday.
A club-record figure of £125m* is widely quoted, ending a saga that began last May when the player and his agent began agitating to engineer release from a contract that was agreed until 2028 without any release clause.
Nobody comes out of this with any credit; be it the club who reluctantly complied with Isak's wishes after failing to address the situation quickly enough, or the one whose media acolytes willingly did their dirty work for them.
By 7pm tonight we'll know exactly what Newcastle have manage to achieve as they bid to replace the second-top scorer in their Premier League history. What a mess.
* it's understood that Isak's previous club Real Sociedad are contractually entitled to 10% of that fee.
