It's basically treated exactly the same as in a penalty shoot-out.

It can't be.

In a penalty shoot out, that is just the end of that attempt, and play moves on to the next attempt.

In-game, you have to restart the match somehow.

Yes either a goal kick if missed or kick off if scored.
Hockey works like that for a penalty stroke.

Spain then...hopefully the Lionesses bring their A game! (and it's not too stressful as I'll be watching after a relaxing day at a spa )
Germany would have been better as they looked knackered at the end!

Got my season ticket already - superbly good value if anybody in London fancies getting one too.

Don't think my eldest realises how lucky they are to be living in this era of sport though. Remember when a solitary gold medal in a sport nobody does was the most we could hope for?

Indeed, quite a bargain  £137.50 for 11 games in a Tier A seat. Indeed I had £57.50 of Amex points so actually only £80!

Access to CL, other cups, away games too etc Would like to go to away games at Tottenham and West Ham to see the stadiums. Sadly Palace Ladies got relegated from the WSL so no Arsenal away this season at Sutton Utd which is literally about a 3 minute walk!

This is correct although I have read that the powers that be are considering making non-shoot out penalties subject to the same law as shoot out penalties (i.e. can't score on the rebound)

I rather like this proposed change!

There's something rather pure about the shootout pens - you have to beat the keeper, and hit the net. Simple.

But I don't see there is any great need to change what we have, and there doesn't seem to be any justification given, or indeed anyone in the game that actually wants it!

It's not the same situation as a shootout - there's a reason the free kick was given and it should just be a restart of play.

I get what you're saying, but I didn't think it was bad at all, other than the typically dire ITV commentary. But then I'm used to watching Scottish football in the main, so generally anything is an improvement on that.

I think though that it can go too far: some of the angles and overlayed graphics make it look like you're watching a video game which happened quite regularly at the Club World Cup.

[Banter] Best coverage for Scottish football is surely if they turn the cameras away from the pitch?[/Banter]

There are times when it can be painful to watch, but that just makes the brilliant moments all the more enjoyable.

Greg Taylor booting Joey Barton 3 feet in the air, for example...

OK, I'll give you that one!

As a resident of Denmark the football here isn't much to shout about either, though I did once get to see Morten Wieghorst get to score four goals in a game for Brøndby while wearing a blood-soaked head bandage.
