Squeaky bum time for Arsenal with City winning 3 nil (4 minutes to go).
They play each other next week and I am so looking forward to watching that as a neutral.

Surely ever neutral support is desperately hoping Spurs go down. 😁

Quite the contrary I suspect (arsenal fans are not neutral of course).

Personally, of the four scrapping to avoid that third relegation spot, I hope Leeds go down. I have had a dislike of them ever since the Don Revie days.

But Spurs are looking the most likely

I get the sentiment but as a season ticket holder at a Championship club I hope not. A club with Spurs resources will skew the division for the entire season. A lot of teams will probably get thumped and Spurs are certain to bounce straight back (surely they're not that bad?). This leaves us with 23 other clubs chasing one automatic promotion spot.......not that my lot will have to worry about it!!! 🤣

This is the problem with modern football. If a big** PL club has a bad season and goes down it significantly impacts the Championship for the following season.

** in Spurs case this is debatable but they do have the resources of a major club.

I hadn’t thought of it from that point of view.
It does make sense that you would want to avoid that happening.

Almost to a man (and woman) ..pundits, neutral, former players or formerly associated with Spurs, are increasingly staggered by how bad things are, shots (multiple) fired at the ownership and players. DI Zerbi comes out as largely unscathed, what can he do when the players simply aren't performing ?
You can see a real panic in supporters YT channels, the impossible is looking increasingly possible.

Could you be seeing another Leicester scenario if they do go down ?

As a Forest fan, they've (Spurs) added some hope we can do enough to survive because virtually ALL the pundits are of the opinion, they simply can't see where Spurs are getting any points, the players are performing THAT badly.

I wouldn't be so sure about Spurs bouncing straight back up.

From my bitter experience, you've got to clear out the players who don't want to be there, for which everyone will try and pull your pants down because they know it's a fire sale. Somehow, you have to motivate players who think they're too good to be there, yet nobody wants. You have to acquire decent players to replace those that you've lost, again, there'll be a 'Spurs' price and a price for everyone else.

Once the season does get started, a trip to or the visit of Tottenham will be everyone's cup final and the likes of Lincoln will raise their game or park the bus. If the product's unpalatable to the customer, they may well stay away.

Can't see a double trapdoor situation, but I don't think it'll be a walk in the park.

I guess, at some point, the other 23 will be chasing just one promotion spot. The way I would look a it is that there would be two "cup finals" (Spurs home and away) for every other team to look forward to.

I'm also unconvinced it's an easy ride back to the Prem if they drop. They will lose a bucketfull of cash (BBC suggest it could be as much as £250 million) and even though players are reported to have 50% wage reduction clauses there are some with release clauses as well. They're probably lucky that this year rather than next is the World Cup as the exodus will already be large, and as mentioned above, there will be plenty that wanted out but had to stay.

I don't think their academy setup is quite good enough that they can just replace internally and bring youth through, so they'll have to shop well to find players that will be right for a Championship challenge but also good enough to play the next season in the Prem if they *do* go up

I remember Spurs in the second flight in the late 70s. It was something of a contrast in styles with their forwards coming up against defenders whose aim was to either put the ball or the player in the stand.

but wont they have to sell a bunch of their players ? I thought they were in lots of debt after building their new stadium, and the concerts/NFL havent been the money makers they thought.

plus they cant seem to make their mind up who their manager should be. on the face of it with their resources they shouldnt be anywhere near the bottom of the table, theres no guarantee theyd just bounce back up, and theyd be facing teams every week who would just park the bus and treat it like an FA cup final against them, the away end would sell out every week.
