Promtion v relegation playoffs are notorious. They were used for the initial Football League Division 2 promotions albeit called Test matches. Darwin were promoted at the expense of Notts County despite the latter finishing third from bottom of Division 1. The club that came bottom, Newton Heath (aka Man U) stayed up

Has Ronaldo thrown his toys from the pram (again?) Will CR7 grace the international scene again? Is there a redemption arc? Or is he, as we speak, researching his lineage to see which other nation he might be eligible to play for? All this and more in the next episode perhaps.

Ronaldo The Ego has indeed thrown his toys right out of the pram, and Portugal look a lot better for it. I do wonder whether Jorge Jesus intentionally provoked it though. Plenty have speculated that Portugal could be a far more dangerous team if they weren't carrying a passenger that refuses to run or press (how can you not press in the modern game?) and Ronaldo showed no signs that he was starting to think of what was good for Portugal instead of what suited his stat-padded career. He didn't seem to have a fade-out or retirement plan, no desire to be used sparingly off the bench to make the best use of his ageing legs, he just wanted to continue to start eery game and be fed the ball in the box. Jesus would have been in real trouble if he'd just not selected him, but Ronaldo was ridiculously easy to manipulate into a stropping into retirement.

Man City appeal, claiming they're innocent of the accusations and that the ruling is 'unsafe' ... hmmm

Looking forward to this incontrovertible proof that they've got that they didn't bother to show the independent investigation.

I'm expecting it to be along the lines of "a big boy did it and ran away" or some variant of a family pet eating their homework
