I'm also riding back, but don't think I'll have time to go via Canterbury. It's going to be straight up the old A2 for me....

The Crab & Winkle Way is a pleasant enough trail. Fine on 23 tyres, even though most of it is chalk/gravel/stone stuff. I've also been on the back roads to Canterbury which have some steep hills and very narrow twisty bits when the cars just don't want you there, so the Crab & Winkle is preferable! However, watch one of the descents as you reach the outskirts of Canterbury as there's some nasty loose stuff at the bottom, and last time I nearly went sideways.

Simon - you have email, as sadly I won't be able to come along on Friday. I'm getting plastered on Saturday, but not with drink unfortunately.

Morning all,

It's with great disappointment I'm going to have to withdraw my name from the list for Friday night. Red was half inched outside a mate's place last night (where she was securely fastened to an immovable object by a Security Level 3 D-lock). I'm currently compiling documents for the insurance company (Cyclescheme demands insurance - handy really) so I should be back with you anon.

*really really disappointed as was very much looking forward to this ride*

(also, quite glad I hadn't put dual pedals on her yet - my latest daydream following having taken her to Berlin for last week safely and with great ease)

'Nomes, sobbing quietly into her 'after walk to work' coffee.

Bugger.

It's good that you've got insurance, our crowd suggest that it's a really good idea, but don't require that you have it.

I hope we'll see you on another FNRttC shortly. I think you're entitled to get your name down on the list for the next one early.

Sorry to hear that! And I will not be alone - the news is liable to send a small wave of disappointment running through the remaining riders...

Hope you get a replacement soon.

Am not taking my name off the DDII yet in case I gets my replacement real quick...

Claude, my dear, you know incredibly well how to appeal to DivaNomes! The wave will be magnified in amplitude when it aligns with my own[sup]*[/sup], that's for damned sure.

See you soon on a new bike I hope.
*fingers crossed very hard, now that they're not wearing gloves*

[sup]*[/sup]and that's more physics than I can remember, TimO - look away now!

What size bike do you ride? Between us we must have something suitable.

Red was a 19" Trek 7.5 FX WSD. Allegedly, they're no longer shipping, so my replacement quotes are for the next ones. I'd be v. grateful for a loaner bike (I considered getting a Velib for the night!), but no worries if not. I can always drown my sorrows in the pub up here while you're cycling through the darkness.

23kg, and a £50 charge for 24 hours of hire ... <shudder> ...

The only thing I could loan you is a heavy singlespeed with a 52" gear. You'd be twiddling like mad just to keep up at the back!

I have two that would definitely fit you (my Dahons- Cadenza's an 18" frame, so adjustable to fit, Jetstream's one size fits all), unfortunately somewhat out of your way.....

Sorry to hear you're bikeless, it's a horrible feeling when you go to get your bike only to find it's not there.

Hopefully your replacement comes really quick, or someone can lend you one.

Another silly question from a newbie:
Bearing in mind Nomes' sad sad news  , assuming Venetia the Bianchi never leaves my side on the way home, do I need to carry a lock with me?
It would make all the difference between my carrying a rucksack or not.

THANK Y'ALL.

Nomes: Do you want to borrow a pretty blue and yellow Brompton?

As a long time resident of the Medway towns that you will be stopping in, I would tend to advise that you do need one. Even though it will hopefully be quiet when we stop in Rochester.
