Crossing France - the sea-to-sea tour 2014
  • Here's the skinny, and it's all good................OK peeps - your thoughts please?
I have not really made any contributions to this thread to date but have been watching with great interest at the discussions and sometimes heated debates that have evolved. The latest draft of the plan seems to excite me the most, The fun of getting from A-B with the Weather and Roads of France. The Van assisting with the journey is even more welcoming for reasons you all probably know by now. So far I have been on two great Fridays Tours and will look forward to this one with a much lighter bags
I have cycled in France three time this year, its quite big and there are many places which remain to be explored with the Fridays

One question. Is there any extent to which this will be a tackle out tour?
Budgie Smugglers should probably be carried in case of emergencies. We shall be by the sea, but I can't get the route to go near

Pedants Corner: 70th Anniversary of D-Day. (Only know that as my ex-Father in Law was in the first glider down, to take Pegasus Bridge etc. - he's still alive.) 00:16 on June 6th also.
"Pedant's" or indeed "Pedants'", surely. But a fascinating historical snippet all the same.

Worth bearing in mind that this may affect ferry bookings. People going out to ceremonies etc.

Edit: But you're going a week afterwards. Ignore me.

My thought is, I wish my children were slightly older so that a) they could join in, and b) they weren't at school.

It looks fabulous. I wish I could join you all.

My thought is,i wish i wasn't married

Looking at the overnight ferry - its mighty slow so a cabin would be needed if you are going to start in sensible shape. But at £55 a cabin it may be a darn sight cheaper and more comfortable to go Friday pm and do a F1/B&B/PremierClasse for the night ...

Good point, of course Adrian is the expert on the Caen crossing, and the silence of the cabins thereof.

Do you anticipate any problem with bike capacity on the ferry (a la Dieppe)? Splitting sailings would alleviate any issue. Which begs the question - do you have an upper limit of riders in mind? Obviously the van limits the number of riders who are going to return together to Caen but what of others?
