I know one was penalised because he had the blacksmiths son operating the bellows on the forge for him. Whilst he fixed the bike.
How times change.

Didn't look like the tyres/tubs were too reliable in those days!View attachment 61993 View attachment 61992 My two favorites..
Nope, that was another reason Christophe didn't win in 1919. People felt so sorry for him after the broken fork episode and the p-fairy visits, that they raised a fund for him greater than the purse for the TDF. I've been up there. I think they try to discourage cyclists nowadays though. Too many crashes maybe.
Used to have to reach down and change the gears manually, by moving the chain by hand.Does that bike have gears? I cant see a rear derailure, but the chain line looks wrong back to the front chain ring
Thanks for that, I've been after that picture of the three up sprint since it featured on the cover of a Madison Freewheel catalogue (How we ordered stuff pre internet) back in the eighties. It's now my desktop wallpaper.Don't know if this has already been posted, but the Grauniad put up some pictures to celebrate the Badger's 60th birthday last week, here: http://www.theguardian.com/sport/gallery/2014/nov/14/bernard-hinault-cycling-in-pictures
